Dancing can be intimidating when you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin. A lot of the dancers you might see are pretty good-looking and in top shape. How do you compete with that?
Well, you don’t have to. A lot of us are really skinny, chubby, or anything else on that spectrum. But that doesn’t mean we should shy away from dancing.
Check out Aoniken Quiroga. There’s no denying his body size, but he’s a pro dancer. What’s your excuse?
Aoniken knows what he looks like, but he doesn’t care. He moves and glides with incredible precision and finesse.
His partner here is Alejandra Mantinan. They’re dancing at the 2022 Berlin Exhibition Tango show, and I dare say they stole the show.
Aoniken warmed up a bit before the dance. He was sweating slightly, so he wiped it away with a hanky and comedically tossed it to the side. You can even see another person in the back chuckle and pick it up off the floor.
Maybe he’s sweating because he’s nervous, or because it’s a bit humid in here. But after a few seconds, he proved to us that he shouldn’t have anything to be nervous about.
When their song of choice comes on, all doubt goes out the window.
It’s Y Te Parece Todavia by Hector Varela, and their tango to the song is nothing but top notch.
Alejandra is a wonderful dance partner. Like any tango dancer, she dressed all flamboyant and fancy for this one. She guides her partner with movements in her feet, and once they get a feel for the dance, they move like one unit.
Aoniken is just as light on his feet despite his build. That’s what practice, dedication, and confidence can do for you.
He glides along with Alejandra and makes it look easy.
The pair can be seen together not just here, but on their social media too. They make a great duo, is what that means.
The room may be silent besides the music, but you can feel how impressed the other folks are watching.
When a man that big can move that smoothly, it’s worth some praise.
But while it’s definitely impressive that Aoniken can move like that in spite of his build, it’d be a disservice to him if I spent all this time just talking about that.
His appearance is far from the most important thing about him. He’s a hard-working, incredible dancer above everything else.
Near the end of their performance, Aoniken and Alejandra do a little maneuver that had the crowd cheering.
It was a little slide, with Alejandra leaning onto her man and Aoniken giving her a smooth push to glide her across the floor. It was stylish, smooth, and a highlight of the dance.
And when they finish it off with an aerial spin and an impeccable landing, they got a well-deserved round of applause.
