Do you remember how popular the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was?

You could not log onto social media without seeing another friend posting a video of themselves being drenched in ice cold water.

Celebrities were challenging other celebrities, all for a good cause. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge wound up raising over $115 million for research on the disease and finding a cure.

Not every challenge has a higher motive toward raising money for a good cause. Some online challenges go viral just because they are fun!

Before the internet is what it is today, we had people planking all over the place. In the last few years, we’ve had things like the Running Man Challenge and the Mannequin Challenge.

As silly as some of these challenges might seem, they can be a great way for friends, families, and even, teammates to bond with each other.

One new challenge is the Cha Cha Slide Plank Challenge. Now, this is one that you don’t want to get involved in unless you’ve got a really strong core. The challenge seems to have originated in 2016 on YouTube but has recently regained some steam.

Gymnasts at J & R Gymnastics put a fun twist on this challenge. Instead of doing it to the “Cha Cha Slide,” they did the challenge to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars.

As soon as the video starts, you can see six gymnasts of various ages lined up on the mat, all of them in plank formation.

Then the music starts to play:

This hit, that ice cold
Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold
This one, for them hood girls
Them good girls, straight masterpieces
Stylin’, wilin’
Livin’ it up in the city
Got Chucks on with Saint Laurent
Gotta kiss myself I’m so pretty

As the music continues, they rotate from various positions that have their core 100% engaged, like plank pose, mountain climbers, taps, Superman, swimmers, and so much more.

They don’t do this for just 60 seconds. No, they are able to keep up the challenge for the entire song, which is nearly 4 1/2 minutes long!

Since the video was posted in mid-March, it has gotten over 38,000 likes, 55,000 shares, over 16,000 comments, and 5 million views on Facebook!

One commenter said that they had been missing gymnastics until they saw this video:

Sometimes i miss gymnastics and wish i never stopped and then i see these stretches and workouts and i change my mind

While another commenter joked around about eating and not having any abs to even challenge:

Well, okay then. Let’s all go eat some chicken wings as we discuss our lack of abs. These chicks are ridiculously awesome. You go, girls!

Even though this video has gone massively viral, that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been viewed a little critically.

One commenter just had to point out that the girls weren’t doing a “perfect” plank:

All of them need to lower their butts. They are almost in pike positions when they should be in PLANK positions. Should be a straight line from head to toe.

Other than that, bravo!

I think what they did is amazing. There is no way I could keep my core engaged for that long. I will go for 30 seconds and feel like I am dying.
