The guy in this video has a story to tell as he roams London’s alleyway with his guitar.

Ren Gill, 26, is a musician in Brighton, England. In this clip, he tells us an interesting story about the encounter of two people on an alleyway in London. The story was not told in a very straightforward way; it was represented through a poem he sang.

The song starts by describing the quiet scenery of an empty street in London.

It is also where the first character, Jenny, gets introduced. It continues to the first verse where Gill introduces another character on the other side of the street that same night. His name was James, and his friends call him “Screech.” He is a 14-year-old boy who lives his life on the streets by lying and thieving.

In the second verse, Gill explains how Jenny feels anxious about the night.

Her usual night stroll goes all right but she felt something weird like “a divine intervention telling her to beware.”

Jenny hears sirens in the distance, and when she turns a corner, she encounters Screech! He starts to mug her and aggressively demands that she hand her purse over. He pulls out a knife and starts to threaten her, but “with the devil in his chest,” he leaves Jenny lying on the empty street.

By the end, Gill’s storytelling is so good that you would think it was real.

With only his guitar and his words, he tells a story that is beyond realistic.

Anyone who listens to this is sure to have their brain filled with vivid imagery. Although it started off as just a poem, his guitar playing and his attitude brought the entire thing to life!

He applied the right amount of suspense and grim elements of the story and perfected the song on many levels.

In the song, he carefully describes scenes implicitly by using symbolism and other figures of speech. His poetic approach in this song is a masterpiece to behold, and it’s not something we see in music very much anymore.

His inspiration in composing this song might be linked to London’s rising crime rate.

Recent statistics presented by BBC News showed that there’s been a rise in knife crimes in England. The total confirmed number of knife offenses was 43,516 at the end of 2019. This may be one of Gills’ inspiration as he wrote this poem—after all, artists have to discuss the world around them!

As of 2020, the video got 3.3 million views on YouTube.

He was ecstatic about its success despite not having a budget or a record label when they were filming it. Afterward, he expressed his thanks and utmost appreciation to his fans on Instagram.

But wait, there’s more! There’s also a part two of the story.

You can actually hear the sequel of this story, since he posted “Screech’s Tale” on YouTube as well. It shows the story of Screech after he left Jenny dead on London’s street on the same night.

First, watch the video below to know about the protagonist Jenny before watching the villain Screech’s tale!
