A hotel lobby guitarist and entertainer was playing for a small group of hotel guests when he stopped and asked for any requests. After a few moments, someone in the crowd asked if he knew any good piano tunes.
Although he laughed it off, he surprised everyone with what came next!
After thinking for a few seconds, he decides to take the audience member up on his suggestion. “Okay, I can do something,” he says in the video. “I’ve got a piano.” He then turns to his keyboard and tests out a few chords while the lobby guests still chuckling at his performance.
The video he uploaded to YouTube now has over 10 million views!
It’s likely the audience member had no idea what the performer was about to do with his small electronic kit that included a drum set, a keyboard and a looping pedal.
The guitarist says at the beginning of the video that they were the biggest crowd he’d ever had—still, in actual fact, he is a famous Lithuanian musician with abilities in multiple instruments, which becomes quickly apparent.
After a little research for some “inspiration,” he starts to create a bass on the keyboard with some chords that he then plays on repeat with a looping pedal. He then plays a jazz riff style melody on top of that and adds in the drum beat.
The melody and framework continues to build, as he adds in bass notes and other layers, flipping and switching buttons as he goes from instrument to instrument.
Once he has laid the groundwork, he starts adding some guitar melodies and riffs. But it’s the next part that flaws people in the comments.
He starts playing the guitar and the keyboard at the same time.
With his left hand on the electric guitar strings and his right hand on the keyboard, he plays the same melody at the same time.
“The crowd was probably like ‘I didn’t even know you could play the guitar without strumming.'”
The comments on the YouTube video show how blown away people were.
“Do you play in a band?”
“No but a band plays in me…”
“When you study for the wrong test but still get an A”
The musician, known as Døvydas, has appeared on Lithuania’s Got Talent and Lithuania’s Pick for Eurovision 2011 and moved to the States in 2012 after encouragement from a fan and fellow musician in the US. He plays multiple instruments, although states that the electric guitar is his main focus.
The one man band jam session lasted just under ten minutes, and performer Døvydas makes it look effortless, adding in melody and instruments as he goes. He sometimes even plays two instruments at once!
Once he’s finished, a lobby guest says of the request, “he wasn’t expecting that.”
What started as an impromptu composition for an audience of a half dozen quickly turned into a viral video online.
“‘You’re my biggest crowd of the week’…10 million views later”
Needless to say, this talented performer blew away the whole crowd through his surprise showmanship!
