The movie Deliverance is a legendary film that made some serious waves in the 1970s.

To those who have already watched this classic, most people would talk about it being a well-made thriller story that is somewhat relevant until today. Although, music lovers would certainly not refuse to bring up the classic bluegrass piece that was featured in the movie.

The story details a trip of some friends up the Cahulawassee River.

If you remember, the story started with four protagonists taking a canoe trip down the river where they reach an unknown wilderness at the other end.

It was when one of the protagonists, Drew Ballinger, met a strange man who was playing a banjo.

In the movie, Drew tried communicating with the boy via guitar and their exchange of notes and chords turned into a beautiful, musical masterpiece.

The music was enough to make people’s feet dance on the ground.

This masterpiece is called “Duelling Banjos” and it was composed by Arthur Smith in 1954.

However, it was both multi-instrumentalist, Eric Weissberg and bluegrass banjoist and guitarist, Steve Mandell who rearranged the piece to be included as a soundtrack on the film.

Moreover, in the movie scene, the actors were not the ones who were playing the song but it was Weissberg and Mandell themselves in their pre-recorded performance of the song.

A certain bluegrass lover on the internet attempted to recreate this classic piece on his own.

A certain man with an unyielding passion for bluegrass music dug up this classic piece and recreated it with style.

With the help of video layering and editing, anything can be done. In this case, Rene Perreault, the guy behind the YouTube channel Bluegrass Style, was able to form an idea of making it seem like he was two different people in the video playing instruments out on a peaceful outdoors with a horse.

Perreault’s version of the song was beyond satisfying to hear.

Perreault imitated the scene from the movie where Drew and the banjo-boy were observing each other’s hands on their respective fretboard and responding with their tune.

With a pick in his hands, Perreault accurately struck the right notes as shown in the movie. Following the same octave patterns and harmonies.

After that, the man reached the part of the song where both the guitar and banjo create a harmonious melody together.

His guitar made a beautiful, clear sound as he strummed it with ease. On the other hand, you could see how Perreault’s clone on the banjo was tickling its strings, while his nimble fingers were dancing on the fretboard.

This guy played the piece so beautifully that it is almost as great as the original.

The video was uploaded in 2017 on Perreault’s channel and it has been already viewed over 12 million times on YouTube.

Although nothing beats the original, we could still give credits to Perreault for crushing it in his way.

The man only has a total of three videos on his channel yet it is still worth checking them all out. All the videos are solely him and his clones playing as a bluegrass band. If you’re a bluegrass lover, you would surely find him unique and interesting.
