Ice skating is by definition an impressive sport to watch, especially because it’s not easy to do.
Many times we have been impressed by ice skating performances, and they are always better when they are accompanied by loved songs.
One of those performances was that of the NEXXICE Senior Synchronized skating team, which comes from Canada.
The NEXXICE Senior team performed during the Canadian Synchronized Skating Championship with the routine that can be enjoyed in the video below.
The skaters chose to build their routine on the sounds of the Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, one of the most popular and loved songs of all time.
In fact, Rolling Stone has ranked it #166 on the list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”, while it has also been awarded, according to The Guardian, the title of “the most-streamed song from the 20th century.”
So, as much as we enjoy an ice skating routine, we can’t resist a routine that has “Bohemian Rhapsody” as a backdrop.
The numerous skaters- mainly women, among which only one man- have gotten their places on the rink and are ready for the song to start. When the first a cappella part begins, the ice skaters start moving on the ice slowly and gracefully, following the rhythm of the song.
Then, when Freddie Mercury sings the iconic ballad part of the song, the skaters glide on the ice with amazingly synchronized moves, sometimes all moving together and sometimes splitting into two or four, each group gliding among the others.
The results are awesome- and what follows is even more impressive.
The operatic part of the song comes next. This is probably the most characteristic section of the song and- maybe- the most amusing one. And that’s what the ice skaters tried to reflect in their routine, too.
The athletes spin in circles and then form a snake-like line, leaving the audience speechless with their skills.
The viewers in the stadium are clapping and cheering for the skaters, and this gives them an extra boost to continue with the same energy.
It seems these guys are unstoppable.
When the rock part of “Bohemian Rhapsody” begins, they speed up their moves, too. The crowd goes wild, and, as they approach the end, the skaters’ moves become even more light and delicate, while also powerful in their own unique way.
The ending does not disappoint the audience either.
The skaters, in pairs and groups of three, kneel forming a circle, while a group of four female skaters, along with the only male skater, remain in the middle of the circle, with the man doing a handstand.
This is probably the best ending we could think of- an amazing idea and excellent execution.
The video of the skaters’ routine has gone viral with more than 1M views on YouTube and thousands of upvotes.
It has also received hundreds of positive comments from YouTube users.
“Can I just say I am in complete admiration of the group, but a special shout out to the lone gentleman for following your passions. Sets a great example,” someone wrote.
