Weddings are a very big deal, but not just for the bride.
People are quick to chastise women who are too excited for their big day by calling them “bridezillas,” but not every bride goes over the top. Come on, people – let’s stop the gender stereotypes!
Sometimes, it is the groom who gives the bride, wedding party, and all of the guests something to talk about for a long, long time. Like the wedding surprise performance you’re about to see below.
The average wedding costs roughly $25,000 and that is not including the honeymoon. For something so expensive, it makes sense that couples want the night to be a moment to remember for the rest of their lives.
One of the most important wedding expenses (after the dress, ring, and venue) is the entertainment. Some people opt for live entertainment, while others pick a wedding DJ.
The average DJ can range anywhere between $300 to $2,500 for the special night. One groom put his DJ to work, so he could show off his dance moves. But it wasn’t going to be just some impromptu performance that he’d throw together at the last minute.
Lanny made his wedding night a memorable one. First, he took the microphone to give a brief speech, in which he addressed his wife’s father. Of course, beautiful and kind words were said, everyone in the room was captivated. But – this was just the beginning.
“The speech was just a way to introduce his real surprise of the night. He told his father-in-law, ‘That’s my girl now!'”
The groom planned a performance to the hit 1964 song by The Temptations, “My Girl.” A show with completely choreographed dancing and everything!
The music started to play, while Lanny was joined by his groomsmen.
I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it’s cold outside I’ve got the month of May
Well I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin’ ’bout my girl (my girl)
The bride got a front-row seat to the performance, where she could be serenaded by her husband. He did a great job channeling the Temptations lead singer, as he lip-synced the words. The bride was loving every single moment of her husband’s thoughtful gift.
I’ve got so much honey the bees envy me
I’ve got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees
Well I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin’ ’bout my girl (my girl ooh)
Lanny used the entire dance floor to pull off this performance. He was between the stage and the floor, with his best friends following his every move perfectly. They had clearly taken the time to practice their moves.
The bride was also in the perfect position for the men to include her in the show, so one-by-one they handed her pink roses.
She couldn’t keep the smile off of her face while she watched her new husband get into the music and let loose. “My Girl” might be over 50 years old, but everyone in the room surely knew all of the words to the song.
Hopefully, Lanny and his bride take this part of the song to heart:
I don’t need no money, fortune, or fame (ooh hey hey hey)
I’ve got all the riches baby one man can claim (oh yes I do)
I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin’ ’bout my girl (my girl)
