All around the world, people are trying to find ways to pass the days and keep their spirits up during these difficult times. Life in lockdown isn’t easy, but it’s inspiring to see how many good people have chosen to try and spread joy and laughter to others, however they can.

A lot of people have been making YouTube videos or setting up online streams of themselves singing and dancing, and one guy did something that has probably never been done before: he turned a classic Dr. Seuss story into a rap!

36-year-old Wes Tank is the man behind the magic, and his recent ‘Green Eggs And Ham’ rap has been entertaining folks all over the world!

Tank is a Milwaukee-based multimedia artist. For about a month now, he’s been regularly uploading Dr. Seuss raps to his YouTube Channel.

Popular Dr. Seuss classics like Cat in the Hat and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish have received the Tank treatment, and his Green Eggs And Ham cover is one of the best!

With the hip hop beat of Dr. Dre’s ‘Forgot About Dre’ playing in the background, Tank takes a seat in front of a huge bookcase and launches right into the story.

The silly story involves a character named Sam-I-Am pestering his pal to eat some green eggs and ham.

The other character, Guy-Am-I, constantly refuses to eat the green eggs and ham, even when Sam-I-Am offers to let him eat them in a range of different environments and with an assortment of different animal friends.

In the end, Guy-Am-I gives the eggs a try and ends up loving them.

It’s a funny, classic story written in Dr. Seuss’ classic rhyming style, and it turns out that it works pretty well when performed as a rap too!

Instead of simply reading out the words one by one, Tank injects them with life and melody, rapping his way from the first page to the last and grooving along to the sound of the beat.

“A lot of these books and a lot of these beats kind of go well together,” said Tank in an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio.

And Dr. Seuss’ works aren’t the only ones getting a musical makeover in the hands of this amusing artist.

He says he’s also been working with texts by William Shakespeare and Lewis Carroll, trying to find the right music to match the text and experimenting with ideas like mixing Shakespeare plays with MF Doom beats, for example.

Tank says that he’s received a “lovely” response from his many new fans and followers on YouTube, and he’s had several more supporters sign up for his Patreon too.

In his view, adding music and life to these classic stories helps to make them more fun for kids and could get them more interested in literature too.

He also hopes that his videos can appeal to adults who remember reading Dr. Seuss stories as kids and growing up with rap classics by the likes of Dr. Dre. Check out the Green Eggs And Ham rap below and head to Tank’s channel for more awesome videos.
