Though it goes without saying, there are plenty of talented performers out there who nobody had heard of.
When we typically think of musicians or artists, we’re probably only aware of movie stars and other performers who have hit a certain plateau of fame and exposure.
In truth, however, there are so many more people who are just as talented who don’t have as much visibility. Fortunately, platforms like YouTube have made it a lot easier for people all over the world to share their abilities.
And that’s definitely the case with the performer we’re talking about today.
The musician in question is Kristina Schiano, a session drummer and YouTuber from Brooklyn, New York.
On her channel, Schiano posts drum covers, reviews of drumming products and other motivational content as well.
Although she’s not a household name, Schiano’s web presence has earned her nearly a million subscribers on YouTube and has even gotten her product sponsorships as well. While there are plenty of videos online of her performing, there’s one in particular that has had plenty of success.
That video was posted in September 2017.
The song she’s playing is “Basket Case” by Green Day, a pop-punk song that was a huge hit in the ‘90s.
As the song begins, the vocals and guitar come in and Schiano just smiles as she sits behind the kit. A moment later, she starts playing the accents on the cymbals and a little on a bass drum.
Finally, when the song picks up, she lets out a few ferocious drum rolls and drops right into the rhythm perfectly on beat! As it goes on, it’s clear she has incredible drum chops because everything is so crisp and energetic.
Still, the performance isn’t over yet.
As the song continues, Schiano has more and more chances to show off her skills.
When she’s not keeping the rhythm perfectly, she’s doing some awesome drum fills that perfectly match the original song.
When it’s finally all over, she hits the last few runs and gradually fades out. When it’s all over, she has a big smile on her face. Since the clip was posted, it has earned nearly 11 million views and it’s easy to see why!
Still, this isn’t the only performance of Schiano’s that has stunned the internet.
Although plenty of her songs are rock and metal covers, she’s also done some other pop songs as well.
One of those videos comes from December, 2014. In this video, she performs a cover of “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson from her bedroom.
Although she’s much younger in this video, her chops are still there as ever! Even though it’s much different than the other clip, she has no problem with the stop and go funk rhythms and adds plenty of her own feeling to it as well in the process.
Though it goes without saying, Schiano definitely has a bright future ahead of her!
While YouTube is great for all kinds of reasons, one of the best is discovering talents like Schiano.
Anyone hoping to become a musician would do well by learning from Schiano’s technique, passion and determination.
After all, if this is what she can accomplish on YouTube, just wait until you hear her on the radio!
