Though there are all kind of musical reality shows on television in America, many of them are international as well.
While American Idol seems like it’s the only version of itself, the truth is that the Idol franchise actually started in Britain as Pop Idol and has other shows in Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East.
Beyond that, there are also international versions of America’s Got Talent under the wider umbrella of the Got Talent franchise. Still, the one we’re talking about today is The Voice.
For those who don’t know, this show has more spin-offs and variations than perhaps any other show out there.
One of these many shows is The Voice Kids, a version of the show which is pretty self-explanatory.
Though this version of the show features only younger contestants rather than adults, the talent that they find is just as good as it is anywhere else!
Like every other version of The Voice, all the auditions are “blind auditions” where the judges have their backs turned to the stage. If they like what they hear, they can hit their buzzers to turn around—and at that point, the coaches have to compete for the talent to join their teams.
On one particular show of Germany’s version of the show, one boy was in high demand.
Most of the time, people go on these shows with contemporary or songs or pop-oriented performances.
The boy’s name was Tilman and he decided to take an unusual approach. He walked onstage like any other contestant and sat down at the piano.
After that, he starts into a rollicking version of Jerry Lee Lewis’s smash hit “Great Balls of Fire.” Although everyone knows this song, it dates all the way back to 1957 and is one of those foundational rock and roll songs.
Though the song is definitely a great pick, what really stuns everyone is Tilman’s commitment to it!
From the very first smashing piano notes, it’s clear that Tilman is truly channeling Jerry Lee Lewis!
As soon as the first chorus hits, the entire crowd is on their feet clapping along with him. Although his voice is great in-and-of-itself, he does all kinds of vocal tweaks and tricks to make it even more exciting.
Before long, one of the judges smashes their buzzer… and then another one does. Before long, all of the judges have hit their buzzers—and they even get up and start dancing together!
After everyone has turned around, Tilman even accents his piano solo by bringing his foot all the way up on the piano!
When it’s all over, the judges are shouting and the crowd explodes with applause!
Although there have been some pretty incredible performances on these shows over the years, it’s rare to see someone so young with this much stage presence.
Even though this clip happened some years ago on a German program, it has been viewed more than 56 million times on YouTube! It’s definitely not hard to see that Tilman is so talented and so authentic to his own voice. He did Jerry Lee Lewis proud!
Congratulations to Tilman on his amazing performance! Watch the full thing below:
