He's so light on his feet he looks like he's floating on air at times.

It all started in Melbourne, Australia at underground raves in the 1980s. But now it’s moved to China and everyone from school children to elderly people is doing it in the streets.

It’s the shuffle dance.

Never heard of it, well get ready because it’s a lot of fun!

Let’s shuffle

According to Xinhua.net:

“With energetic steps, it is becoming a new form of ‘square dance’ occupying China’s urban spaces from parks to plazas and a popular pound-losing exercise for many elderly and middle-age Chinese.”

Back in May of 2019, there were already 37,000 shuffle dance videos on China’s video-sharing platform Kuaishou and clips of the dance had been viewed over 560 million times on Douyin (aka Tik Tok).

This particular version shows an elderly man with some pretty fly kicks getting his shuffle on in a public square.

Go, grandpa!

We don’t know who the man in the video is. In fact, all we have to go by is Happy Dancer’s description which simply reads “retired Chinese grandpa shuffle dance, Amazing.”

The video has been viewed nearly 200,000 times, but viewers can’t believe it’s not even more popular.

“He is the Bruce Lee of shuffle dance. He is a master at this. Gravity defying skills. Loved this video,” said one viewer.

When asked in the comments about his age, Happy Dancer simply said “I am not sure, we even don’t know who he is, just shot this video in the park when he was dance over there. My guess maybe 50’s. or maybe 60, or 45, we don’t know for sure.”

Well, he’s light on his feet, but he’s not 45, that’s for sure.

Gliding on air

There’s really no still photo that can capture what he’s doing. It’s almost like watching Michael Jackson moonwalk and wondering if he’s actually suspended from the air.

“WOW !!! SO light on his feet, I almost expected him to fly! How wonderful, and a great way to stay healthy! Very envious,” said another viewer.

Plenty of folks were eager to learn the shuffle after watching the video, so Happy Dancer uploaded some tutorials.

In fact, there’s quite a lot of inspiration on her channel. Including the rural couple who went viral a few years ago for recording their dances.

It appears they’re still at it and fit as ever!

See? You can do the shuffle at any age!

And while there are viral videos of kids learning as well, people appear to be most enamored of the seniors who have been dancing the longest.

Then again, many of the compliments were wardrobe-related as well.

“Got to respect the outfit as well as his dance, I thought for sure he was going to transition into break dance move but maybe in the next video,” remarked a viewer.
