One special thing about the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is that there’s always so much for grandkids to learn from their grandparents.

For years before they were born, grandparents were involved in other parts of history and were living entirely different lives.

So, when one young girl rediscovered a song that her grandfather wrote about the army, she was fascinated by it and wanted to give tribute in a special way.

Mike Brook always wanted to join the army.

It had been a dream of his for a long time. Unfortunately, given some injuries sustained through football playing and partial hearing loss, he was unable to enlist.

Despite this setback, he channeled his disappointment and dreams into an original song about a veteran.

So he wrote a song.

In the 1980s, Mike decided to write a song about a veteran’s service in Vietnam. This song became a staple in his household, and he regularly sang it to his children.

Sometimes, singing this song to his kids, he would start crying with the sheer power of emotion it gave him.

Some time has passed since his younger days, but his family is still very connected to that song.

Mike is still moved by the song.

Mike Brook is in his early 70s now, and the song still carries a special significance.

It’s become such a big part of the family that even his grandchildren grew up listening to it and loving it too.

But even though it’s been a big part of their family, that doesn’t mean that everyone always understood the backstory of the song.

Then the lyrics were rediscovered.

Mike’s daughter and granddaughter rediscovered the lyrics one day.

While going through their garage and looking through an old box, they found the original lyrics that Mike Brook has written down decades ago.

When his daughter started reading the lyrics, she began to cry.

His granddaughter had never seen the written lyrics before, and she began to understand how important this song was to her family, and especially her grandfather.

After learning the importance of the song, she decided to do something special for her grandpa. She wanted to give him a proper tribute, so she came up with a Christmas surprise.

She recorded herself singing it.

So when her recording was finished, she gathered the family together to listen and see how her grandpa would react.

Christmas Eve was the perfect time to get everyone together, so she played it when the family was all together for Christmas.

The moment he heard the song, he knew this was something special.

The emotion was written on his face.

Of course, Mike Brook instantly recognized the song. Sitting there listening to his granddaughter sing what he had written decades prior, he began to cry.

It makes sense, to hear a piece of art you made get transformed by your own family is such a treat and an affirmation of how important and beloved this song is by everyone in the family.

It was special for everyone.

It wasn’t just special for Mike.

Mike Brook’s children had grown up with strong memories of hearing their own father sing it and now they were experiencing a full-circle moment of the next generation carrying on the tradition.

A memory made, a memory cherished.

This will definitely be a special memory for the family for years to come.

Now that the song’s been recorded, there is more historical record of it. Now the chances of the song ever getting lost again are a lot lower, and the family has a lovely way to stay connected to it.

Hopefully, this will also encourage Mike Brook to keep singing it to his family.
