This grandpa is not even shy when it comes to getting down.
He has zero problems showing everyone how it’s really done, either!
“(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” may be the theme song to Dirty Dancing, but it’s another hit movie title from the 80s that is proving to be one elderly man’s anthem for living the best life ever.
The video, which was filmed on Pitt Street Mall in Sydney, Australia, starts off with a street busker setting up shop right in front of a Zara’s retail clothing store.
When the unknown singer and musician starts playing “La Bamba,” there’s one person in the crowd who just can’t seem to control his dance party impulses!
This grandpa is ready to move.
If you’ve ever wondered what the English translation of “La Bamba” is, stop right there. There is no real literal meaning of the word.
It’s just the name of a dance, like a cha-cha, or the samba.
The bamba. Get it?
After La Bamba (the movie) hit the big screen in 1987, everyone and their granny was dancing to the Los Lobos remake of “La Bamba” (the song).
Or in this case, it was everyone and their grandpa. Because where else would he have learned these cheeky moves from?
DJ Hector Armando Molina, who was a DJ with WOJO (FM 105.1), explained to the Chicago Tribune why la bamba’s popularity experienced a meteoric rise:
”Mexicans like it because they grew up with it.”
He also went on to say that it’s a folk song, and that “everyone dances ‘la bamba’ at parties and weddings.”
“They personalize it. You change the verses to suit the occasion. The song is to Mexicans what ‘Guantanamera’ is to Cubans. It’s a cultural symbol, dating back to the 1830s. Nobody seems to know who wrote it.”
However, not knowing who wrote the song wasn’t keeping this man from trying to get the crowd of people on Pitt Street involved in his happy dance.
Unfortunately for him, it looked like some folks woke up on the wrong side of the bed and were feeling a bit grumpy. So, he continued doing his own silly, carefree thing.
Thankfully, this spritely fella soon found out he wasn’t the only one feeling the beat. He discovered an unlikely ally in someone who was more than half his size (and age)!
While most people were content to sit back and watch, one little boy was also feeling the beat.
Nope, not this little tiger – he was way too fast for grandpa to catch.
However, this little guy was primed and ready for some dancing.
Grandpa reached out and swooped the little guy up into his arms and the two showed all the onlookers exactly what happens when you choose to make every day the best day ever!
And then it happened. Grandpa finally met his match is this young lady, who was more than happy to follow his lead.
He even got a hug from her after it was over, making the deal even sweeter!
The Internet is absolutely loving this man’s youthful antics, too!
On YouTube, commentators like @Nunya Bizznuss was quick to point out:
“That old dude must of seen some partying in his days! He got triggered and went into party dude mode!”
And @OFW Farmer chimed in with:
“The old man just having the best time of his life…remembering teen age memories.”
Sometimes you just have to dance to the beat of your own drum and not give any eff’s about what other people think.
Because that’s exactly the sort of inner peace (and groovy moves) you gain when you level up to this elderly man’s age.
