Have you ever gotten in a dance competition?
For those who are particularly good at cutting a rug, having a dance-off with friends can be a good way to pass the time. The tradition of dance battling comes mostly out of breakdancing, a now widely popular and hip-hop oriented dance style. Because it’s filled with lots of smooth movements and moves that sometimes require extreme athleticism to pull off, this style of dancing is often thought of as a young man’s game.
Still, a video has been circulating which proves that this isn’t necessarily so.

As the video begins, two men can be seen in the middle of a dance circle in a mall. One of them is noticeably older than the other. In the background, a cover of “Lithium” by Nirvana plays in the background. After the two men shake hands, the battle begins. The dance battle has an entire audience—and the older gentleman takes everyone by surprise!
As the music starts, the competitors get their groove on.
After the older man has his chance to prove himself, his competitor takes his chance with some impressive moves both slow and fast. Still, the grandpa in the video is not going to be outdone so easily. As it starts, he begins by mimicking the moves before taking it even further. After a moment, he speeds up—and even starts grinding on the other man!
Another competitor gets in the mix—but it’s still no challenge for our dance hero.
By this point in the video, the crowd has grown substantially and everyone wants to see what will happen next. The other dancer also has some impressive moves of his own but the crowd is clearly is on the older man’s side. Nobody really wins but the crowd applauds as the older man leaves the dance circle.
More realistically though, we all win with this video.
Above all, this clip shows that we can still have fun and bust a move no matter how old we are.
Although the man in the video doesn’t have as many power moves in his arsenal, he makes up for it by putting his entire heart into the dance. Needless to say, nobody in that crowd is going to forget the performance they saw in the mall that day!
