Many grandpas and granddaughters share a special bond. Often, it begins when the child is young and continues throughout their lives. But this connection is even stronger when the two share a passion for something.
Taking the internet by storm
With close to six million views, one video of a grandpa and his granddaughter went viral for all the right reasons. Diễm Hương and her blind grandfather, Thanh Điền who live in the Philippines, love music. But they don’t just enjoy listening to it, they’re fantastic performers in their own right.
Their story
Unfortunately, we don’t know the backstory of these two. But in a now-viral video, you can see they have a genuine love for each other. They’re also both musically talented. While this grandpa plays the guitar, his granddaughter sings.
A memorable performance
The two of them decided to perform a cover song. And what they did blew everyone out of the water. For starters, this grandpa is probably one of the best guitarists on the planet. Even with an old instrument, he produces amazing sound. As for the granddaughter, she has a unique voice that’s heavenly.
Their song of choice
Diễm Hương and Thanh Điền decided to do “Zombies,” originally recorded by The Cranberries. At the start of the video, the grandpa starts to play the introduction on his guitar. At the same time, his granddaughter sits beside him with genuine love and admiration on her face.
Unbelievable talent
At first, you can’t help but be mesmerized by this grandpa’s guitar skills, which only get better as the song progresses but then, his granddaughter opens her mouth to sing. “Another head hangs lowly. Child is slowly taken. And the violence, caused such silence, “Who are we mistaken?”
There’s a twist
When listening to Diễm Hương belt out the lyrics, you quickly notice they’ve chosen to give this song more of a punk rock sound. She continues, “But you see, it’s not me. It’s not my family. In your head, in your head, they are fighting. With their tanks, and their bombs.”
Fantastic beat
Just a little bit into the video, the grandpa lets loose on his guitar. He does some amazing finger work along with tapping on the front of his instrument to create a drum-like effect. The granddaughter gives him time to shine while she smiles from ear to ear. But soon, he also sings, harmonizing with her.

Shortly after uploading the video, people began posting comments. To the grandfather, one poster said, “When I saw you playing your guitar, I was encouraged to see how you literally feel and enjoy the music that you are playing together with your beautiful singing accompaniment.” We all agree.
More praise
Another individual posted this, “Wow, rhythm, lead, and percussion simultaneously and the guy is blind? That’s just AWESOME! Great job guys!” But this was probably one of the coolest comments, “This man is a genius. He cannot see yet he is playing to perfection.”
