Simon’s Midas touch sent Fayth Ifil to the semi finals of Britain’s Got Talent.
This young lady surprised the judges so much not just with her voice but with her personality. She was twelve here and to stand in front of Simon Cowell and the other judges proved to be too much for others.
But little Ifil blew them all away with her rendition of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary“.
The girl from Swindon has a brief exchange with Amanda Holden in which she was very honest on being nervous and excited. She makes the audience laugh telling them how she felt that morning.
Then Simon addresses her,
“Can I ask you a question? Have you ever had moments when you’ve lost your confidence? I’m really curious.”
That’s an interesting question.
Fayth, ever honest and frank, responds by saying,
“I have lost my confidence a little bit with like a bit of negative energy from different schools. But my mum and my dad helped me get through that, which is why I’m here today.”
Take it away, Fayth!
That familiar intro to Tina Turner’s hit comes on and with confidence in her eyes, Fayth lets her voice take over the hall. Simon’s already on attention but it’s not until Fayth hits a surprise high note that the audience cheers in surprise.
And when the song hits its stride, Fayth struts and dances around with all her energy, moving the crowd and the judges with her steps to the beat.
She really can sing. Those are sustained high notes, the same way Tina Turner used to do it. Fayth’s eyes are now on fire as she stares at the crowd while belting out her song of choice.
Amanda is dancing, Simon is clapping along, and the audience? On their feet!
She’s got a little dance for her audience too. Fayth’s got the attitude and the charisma so needed for the kind of music she’s singing. And as a result, this video has over 23.7 million views!
And how about that ending? You bet she deserved that standing ovation!
Now for her feedback. David Walliams joked,
“Yeah it was alright. Very occasionally someone comes on this show and you think ‘they are born to be a superstar’.”
Then Simon spoke,
“Do you know what I love about you Faye? I absolutely love your personality. You talked about the support you had from your mum and dad. Then you see the support you’ve had from 3,000 people”
But Simon wasn’t done. He ends it by saying,
“Just to give you a bit more support, I’m going to give you one of those.”
GOLD!!
Fayth bursts in to tears amidst the cheering but then Simon walks over to her for a hug with mom and dad right by her side. Simon had nothing but praises for the young lady and he continued to encourage her.
He says to Fayth,
“I asked if you’d had any negativity, because when I grew up I had that as well. And the most important thing is they never get to you, and when you’re as good as you are, you win. It kind of gives you that strength and determination. So if anyone ever says anything negative, remember this moment.”
Wise words from a man who knows what he’s saying.
