Ever wonder what it would be like to meet your favorite artist or celebrity?
Would you recognize them? What if you didn’t? When it comes to music, most people are just as focused on the artist as they are on the music. This isn’t the case for one girl who ended up sitting right beside her favorite artist on a plane. She knew every word of every song on his album, but she didn’t recognize him.

When he realized he was sitting on a plane next to an obvious fan, he had to share the story with his other fans. He documented the entire interaction on Twitter, and at times, it is almost unbelievable.
He posted:
“Ok… So, I am currently on a plane (hello expensive wifi) and the girl next to me is listening to my album. Every single song. It is pretty awkward and nice at the same time. Especially since she just asked me what I do in life…So I told her I write music… still not connecting the dots. I left it there and she continued listening to my music.”

He thought maybe she just wasn’t really paying attention and was simply caught up in the music and their conversation.
So, he called her out on Twitter. He posted:
“I realize she might follow me on Twitter. well. hello plane neighbor. Thanks for listening to my music and singing along quietly”
His followers started suggesting ways that he could hint around about his identity. One suggested that he ask her who her favorite artist is. Of course, Dotan wasn’t surprised at her answer. He said:
“Just did. She said ‘Dotan’ without blinking. Pretended like I have never heard of him.”
As time went on, Dotan and the girl had several conversations during the flight.
He was just waiting for her to realize who he was, but she never did. He continued to update his Twitter. He posted:
“Update: still no clue. She did ask me if I enjoy live music and if I write in Dutch or English. I answered: I love gigs, nothing beats live music. And that I write in English.”
And:
“Me: ‘How did you discover the music you were listening to before’ She: ‘I heard it on my favorite tv show. It brings me comfort and peace’”
It looked like this poor girl was never going to learn who she was sitting next to on the plane.
His followers seemed to feel bad for her. Who wouldn’t want to know that they were sitting next to a celebrity? But he wasn’t ready to tell her just yet, and she was still oblivious to it. He continued to share parts of their conversation. He tweeted:
“30 min left until we land. Still, no clue and she is back to listening to my music again.”
And:
“She: ‘Isn’t it beautiful?’ Me: ‘Uhmm’”
Finally, the plane landed. It was the moment of truth.
Would he tell the girl who he really was or let her walk off the plane unaware that she was sitting next to him?
He posted:
“So.. finally arrived (sorry for the suspense, but no wifi during landing). I wrote a note and gave it to her while leaving the plane. I didn’t want to ruin this experience or embarrass her in any way. It’s about the music and this was actually the biggest compliment ever. It might sound cliché, but these moments motivate me to keep going. Back in the studio tomorrow!”
His fans couldn’t believe he would leave them hanging like that. They wanted to know what she thought about it all. A while later, he gave them the ending they were hoping for.
The girl sent him a note back.
He shared a photo of it on his Twitter. His followers were relieved to see that the girl finally realized she was sitting next to her favorite artist and that Dotan gave her another chance to see him.
Dotan is clearly very humble and a bit of a prankster. The important thing is, he has a good heart, and in the end, he made this fan’s day. His music helped her through some rough times, but now she can think about their interaction on the plane when she listens to it and, hopefully, feel a little happier.
