In any show, music is critical in creating a mood in a certain scene.

It builds an incredible atmosphere that helps establish the emotional tone of different moments of the plot.

That’s certainly the case for the original music of Tokyo Ghoul, a Japanese dark fantasy manga.

The story revolves around Ken Kaneki, a character turned into a half-ghoul after a surgery that makes him crave human flesh to survive. It was written by Sui Ishida and published by Shueisha in August 2013. An anime television series adaptation was later aired on July 4, 2014, by Studio Pierrot.

What helped Tokyo Ghoul become popular despite its dark theme was its iconic opening theme, “Unravel.”

The song was performed by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure.

It was initially introduced in the first episode as an ending soundtrack, but was eventually used as the opening in the second episode for the entire season.

The song became very popular, so it’s not surprising that there have been tons of covers of “Unravel” posted all over the internet.

Even so, this unique piano version played by a German pianist is sure to amaze you!

In this YouTube video, you can only see a majestic classical Steinway and Sons piano and the arms of a pianist.

The video starts with the pianist gently tickling the ivories with his fingers. It gradually increases its pace to retain the quality and brisk tempo of the original version of the song.

The song continues with the musician moving his fingers gracefully, considering that it’s such a difficult piece.

He strikes the keys with such finesse, so much so that you can even barely see which notes he’s playing at any given time.

His hands jump from one key to another with quick but perfect movements.

As the song nears its end, he goes back to the delicate soft strokes that he was using in the intro.

With just the limited elements in the video, this pianist successfully shows us his astounding talent and passion.
