The Star Wars saga is a science fiction series created by an American director, screenwriter and producer George Lucas.
It’s a widely-known phenomenon that has had a significant impact on modern popular culture. Not only did the film helped launch the science fiction boom, many parody works and homages have also been made.
And in this case, the franchise also inspired an amazing themed flash mob.
The WDR Radio Orchestra decided to mingle with the crowd on Cologne Wallrafplatz.
The place is near to Cologne Cathedral. It all happened in 2012, but anything related to Star Wars will be relevant forever. The orchestra has a flexible repertoire and they play everything from jazz, pop, rock and film music.
As the video begins, it’s morning and people are passing by, minding their own business.
The square is pretty crowded, when we hear a very familiar tune. On a moment’s notice, the people in Cologne were instantly teleported to a galaxy far, far away. First, you see a conductor and trumpeter. After that, the conductor stands up on his briefcase.
The way he tries to be a bit taller is humorous, and people immediately react to it.
A lot of them turn their heads and look at the funny show. Now that they got everyone’s attention, the rest of the orchestra joins in and the show can go on.
The whole city on the Rhine is blasting with one of the most recognizable soundtracks ever.
You can see that the rest of the orchestra is everywhere.
Some violinists sit in a café, suddenly pulling out their violins from under the table. The video description says the whole thing was spontaneous, and yet it feels well thought through. These musicians must be very proud that things turned out this way because people were so entertained!
The popularity of Star Wars is incredible.
Children, elderly, men, women—everyone stopped for a second to enjoy the orchestral masterpiece. You can see people smiling, and everyone’s enthralled because the musicians came to play this for free.
Even the people living in buildings nearby came to their windows to hear the show.
It’s nice to see so many top-notch musicians playing a piece everyone knows. The video pushes a wish to be in a flash mob to the top of our priorities list.
It’s so enjoyable to watch people enjoy themselves so much.
It didn’t surprise us much, since Star Wars has a huge influence on modern culture. You can find people who haven’t seen the movies, but it’s almost impossible to find someone who hasn’t even heard of it.
The franchise has gained a very notable presence on the internet, and today, it’s practically everywhere.
For proof of how widespread it is, Star Wars is actually the first major motion picture translated into Navajo, one of the most widely spoken Native American languages.
One of the ways to know that your performance is extraordinary is when it never loses its relevance!
Maybe you’ll be surprised to hear that the video was uploaded in 2012 and is almost a decade old.
Nevertheless, the audio and video quality would never give it away.
It has been viewed 10 million times since it was posted, and people spread nothing but love and good mood in the comments section.
