If you’ve recently gone out then you will have seen those familiar lights and decorations adorning many public establishments.
And if you have stepped in to a mall, chances are you’ve heard those familiar holiday songs that instantly brighten the days ahead.
Yes, Christmas is just around the corner!
Everyone’s got a favorite Christmas song or two, and those songs have so many versions thanks to countless artists that we’ve lost count.
You could have a favorite one the same as a friend, but his rendition may be different from yours, and that’s just fine!
With that said, here is “White Christmas” taken to a deeper level.
Geoff Castellucci is a member of the a cappella group VoicePlay. He serves as the bass voice in the group so take note of that.
The man has a voice that ranges over five octaves so we know he’s the real deal.
Geoff’s parents enrolled him after seeing his interest as a child.
He got into local classical and jazz piano training, forgetting his interest in dance since it was his singing that was much better.
In middle school, Geoff joined the choir where he got his first taste of a cappella singing.
Bass a cappella!
Now the song “White Christmas” first aired during the Kraft Music Hall radio show on December 25, 1941.
Then-host Bing Crosby crooned the soulful, and longing carol just a few weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Nowadays, the song is much more festive. Happier.
Geoff takes the same song written by Irving Berlin, who wrote it even though he was Jewish and didn’t celebrate Christmas.
Berlin was a Russian-born immigrant who lost his three-week-old son on Christmas day in 1928. Every year on December 25, he and his wife visited their baby’s grave.
Hence the part that goes,
“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know Where the tree tops glisten And children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow”
Sad huh?
Well Geoff’s take will bring the cheer. He just does it all himself and yet it just works wonderfully!
Berlin would have loved this version.
It’s exactly the same song, except sung at a really low tone as only Geoff can. And he does it with style.
In fact, it’s so catchy that you’d catch yourself humming along to him, and maybe even trying to sing it in bass!
“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmas’ be white”
You need to go way down low and feel it in your core.
The harmony all done by Geoff himself is dreamy, and the way e slowly increases the tempo is just brilliant.
And yes, all of those four guys are just him so do hit like and subscribe because he is incredible!
He makes it sound so warm, cozy, and inviting. Just like how Christmas should be.
