Gary Lee Clark Jr. is an American musician best known for his fusion of rock, blues and soul music with some elements of hip-hop.
Famous for being a prolific live performer, Clark Jr. has shared the stage with Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and B.B. King, to name a few.
We wanted to get a glimpse of his praised live performances, and the video of Clark’s 2016 Glastonbury live show demonstrates the way that rock jamming is supposed to sound.
The audience is thrilled to hear Clark Jr. play, and you can hear them screaming his name and calling him onstage.
As the video begins, a group of his fans shouts “Ride around Gary.” The camera focuses on the musician, who seems very proud of his loving audience, and smiles at thousands of people who came to see him live. After telling the crowd that he appreciated them, Clark Jr. picks up his guitar. There is an immediate expression of joy on his face as if he stepped into another world, just by playing a few notes on his instrument.
Dressed in his signature outfit and with a skillful band following him, the talented singer starts to perform “When My Train Pulls In.”
The lights go on, a deck of cards appears on screen, and Clark Jr. lets his beautiful voice fill the space. This is one of those jam sessions that you just don’t want to end!
Every time we hear Clark Jr. do a solo, we feel his soul through the way he plays the guitar.
Clark Jr. combines different styles in his performance and goes from B.B. King to Prince to Hendrix. You’ll certainly get goosebumps watching this magician on display, but it would be unfair not to mention his awesome band! They’re the true backbone of the show.
The drummer is incredible—he stays in the pocket and complements everything perfectly without overplaying.
The rhythm guitar, on the other hand, creates an oppressive atmosphere during Gary’s solo. It all just magnifies the performance even more. Thumbs up to this band—and to the hundreds of hours they must have spent rehearsing to sound like this!
We felt touched every time he sang “I can’t take it no more.”
Clark Jr. played a phenomenal guitar solo, and the audience could feel a lot of pain in it. You know you’re a great musician when the crowd sings your whole song unanimously—what a feeling that must be! In all, they had an incredible sound and all the band members lost themselves in the music.
Gary Clark Jr. is on tour now, and he released his newest album in 2019.
The latest album is called This Land, and it’s available in stores now.
