Drew Bargsley, a northern Texas man, was filled with nervousness. For the past three months, he had been planning how he would propose to his girlfriend, Chelsea Townsend. And now, the moment was almost here.
As a birthday present, the couple had gotten tickets to go see country singer Garth Brooks perform live, and Drew hoped to pop the question when Garth performed his hit song “Unanswered Prayers.”
The song is one of Garth’s most popular hits and talks about a man reminiscing about heartbreak and his high school crush— only to realize that everything happened for a reason and God had a bigger plan that led him to his wife.
During the concert, Drew was nervous. But, when his moment came, he immediately dropped to one knee and asked Chelsea to marry him.
When audience members saw what was happening, people immediately broke into cheers. That’s when Garth did something unexpected.
Hearing the commotion around the proposal, Garth stopped the song to ask what is going on.
In an interview with CBSDFW, Chelsea said:
“He was down on one knee, holding the ring. Of course, I started crying and the next thing I know, Garth Brooks is addressing us on stage.”
“Did someone just propose to somebody up there? Did I miss it?” Garth asked the audience.
When the couple confirmed they had just gotten engaged, the singer started to ask them a few questions: “So, you guys have a date planned? You have anything like that yet?” The couple told him they weren’t sure what their plans would be yet. Turning to Chelsea, Garth asked: “Chelsea, where do you want to go on your honeymoon?”
When Chelsea told him, she didn’t have any places in mind, Garth made an unexpected offer:
“Well, I’ll tell you what. If you pick Hawaii, Miss Yearwood and I will pay for it, okay?”
After the concert, Drew and Chelsea exchanged information with Garth’s people. “We’re already feeling so blessed from everybody,” Chelsea told CBSDFW between tears.
“We’re truly unworthy of the whole thing.”
“It’s so wonderful to have everybody share the moment with us.”
Since being uploaded online, the couple’s proposal (and Garth’s generous offer) has been viewed over 75,000 times.
“how many people can say their honeymoon was paid for by Garth and Trisha?? That’s amazing…”
“Garth is one of the better singers in country music, but he’s one of the very BEST entertainers in country music ever!”
“That made me cry!!”
I can’t seem to find updates about the couple’s honeymoon, but if the dates on their Facebook photos are any indication, they were married in April of this year.
So we may be hearing more from them soon!
