As the holiday season draws near, communities often gather in their local churches to celebrate with services and festive activities.
For many, this time of year is particularly special, filled with joy and communal spirit.
Several years back, a church congregation was in for a delightful surprise.
A group of four boys had formed a gospel quartet and were all set to perform.
Unbeknownst to the audience, these young lads had a humorous twist planned for their act.
Gospel quartets typically feature a blend of different singing styles, harmonizing in a four-part chorus.
Each member plays a specific role: the tenor hits the highest notes, the lead carries the melody, the baritone enriches the sound, and the bass sings the lowest parts.
This combination creates a truly enchanting musical experience.
For their Christmas performance, the boys had chosen a holiday song.
But they planned to present it in a way that was unexpected and sure to amuse the audience.
They had diligently practiced, perfecting every detail of their routine, and were brimming with excitement and barely-contained laughter as they took the stage.
Their choice for the performance was a lip-sync rendition of the song “Christmas Carol of Love”.
Each boy matched his lip movements to a specific voice in the track, playing a distinct “role” in the quartet.
Initially, they sang in unison, swaying rhythmically to the cheerful holiday tune.
However, the moment the boy in the vest stepped forward to “sing” his part, the audience couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
As he opened his mouth, a surprisingly deep bass voice filled the room, leaving the congregation in awe and amusement.
He stole the show.
The young performer enhanced his act with exaggerated gestures and movements, perfectly syncing with the deep voice, which belonged to the legendary quartet singer J.D. Sumner.
Sumner, known for his extraordinary bass, had inspired many, including a young Elvis Presley, and had performed with JD and the Stamps Quartet, who later worked with Presley.
This charming and humorous performance by the boys’ gospel quartet quickly went viral, and as of now – has nearly 11M views.
It was a delightful blend of innocent fun and a tribute to Sumner’s incredible talent.
Viewers commented on the video, expressing their amusement and appreciation for the performance, highlighting the deep bass and the joy it brought.
