Singing
Funk band shakes up Taylor Swift song with style
Who knew a pop tune could be so beautifully transformed into a smooth funk jam? These guys nailed it.

“Scary Pockets” doesn’t sound like a band name you would expect to hear producing smooth funk covers, but think again!

This LA duo, Jack Conte and Ryan Lerman, have blessed YouTube with a series of videos, that are always partners with other unique musicians in the area.

They got together with drummer Cobus, and bassist Joe Ayoub to funk-ify the beat, then called in Jon Cozart to sing.

The result? This epic funk cover of Style, originally by Taylor Swift.

There’s a quick instrumental intro before Jon Cozart kicks off with the instantly recognizable lyrics.

As usual, Taylor Swift has found a way to make us miss a boyfriend we never had.

Midnight, you come and pick me up, no headlights
Long drive, could end in burning flames or paradise
Fade into view, It’s been a while since I have even heard from you
And I should just tell you to leave ’cause I
Know exactly where it leads but I
Watch it go round and round each time

Even if you’re not a Swift fan, don’t worry, it doesn’t matter. The cover has been adjusted to have its own soul!

The vocalist, Jon Cozart was originally famous for his Disney a cappella covers that he recorded himself on YouTube.

His channel has more than 4 million followers and he now performs all over the world.

But he has also expanded his repertoire far outside just Disney songs by now! This is just one example of the different genres he now works with.

The camera swings around the room, focusing on the musicians throughout the whole performance.

It feels cozy.

The room’s white walls and basic wooden tiling make it feel like a basement. It’s a small space and there’s music equipment absolutely everywhere.

As if you’re just a friend sitting in for a (very very professional) jam session.

They all look like they’re having a blast.

They keyboardist, Jack Conte, isn’t really at the front and centre like the singer, but he steals the show anyway.

His very enthusiastic and expressive reactions when playing are so endearing!

Compared to the very mellow and laid back bassist it’s a noticeable contrast.

Jack keeps looking back at his bandmate on the guitar, sending big smiles and nodding along to the beat.

When the music tempo changes he leans his head all the way back, reveling in the sweet sweet sound of the music the group has made. You can tell he’s just having the time of his life.

It’s true what they say… get a job doing something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life!

The best part is when he’s looking lovingly at Jon Cozart. Jack looks like a proud dad.

And If you’ve ever seen Arrested Development, tell me he doesn’t look a little bit like Tobias Fünke too. Otherwise known as Comedian, David Cross.

Everyone is looking at Jon. Everyone is proud, heck even I’m proud and I don’t know him!

What a supportive band he’s got here.

The music is great, but I’m distracted by watching this guy go wild with love during the performance.

I had to go watch it a second time!

They finish on a big note and the imaginary crowd (me, from behind my computer screen) goes wild.

The video has already gathered more than 50k views just over the span of a few days. Wow!

The group absolutely smashes it, I hope they produce more covers in the future, they work so well together.
