There is something special about couples dancing. Even if you aren’t romantically involved with your partner, there is something thrilling when you make art together. It doesn’t hurt if you are able to win some competitions, either! One couple won The Open championship and after watching them dance, you will see why!
Jordan Frisbee and Victoria Henk are two dancers who have quite some experience.
Dancing isn’t something that you can pick up in an afternoon. It takes years of practice and dedication in order to be a decent competitor. Jordan Frisbee began dancing at 11 years old when he was asked by a pretty girl if he knew how to West Coast Swing. That girl, Olivia Dasso, would become his first dance partner. Through the years, Jordan has had a few partners and won quite a few championships! He travels 47 weekends out of the year if that shows any of the dedication that it takes! [JTSwing]
Victoria Henk isn’t a nobody either!
Known as one of the most popular followers of West Coast Swing, Victoria has quite the pedigree when it comes to dancing! She is currently only 24-years-old but has been an All-Star twice. Currently, she has taken a step back from the dance scene to pursue some different things in life. Thankfully, there are videos like this one to show us how to West Coast Swing!
Victoria and Jordan walk arm in arm to the center of the floor.
Getting ready for their dance, they sit and idly talk. After a few seconds, the techno dance music doesn’t stop so they make a joke of it and dance a move or two to the music that is definitely not swing. The crowd gives a bit of a laugh as the announcer gently rebukes the DJ! Things are off to a humorous start.
When the couple finally gets in place to dance, they start off easy.
Much like playing an instrument, playing something fast isn’t always the best route to impress people. Dancing features this rule as well and Jordan and Victoria know it. They start off with the barest of sways to the groovy music. When the song lyrics say “with a smile so bright”, Victoria even leans back and lets her pearly whites show!
After the smile, the two really start to get into their dance!
They are swing dancing and that usually means a few things! One of the most important things about West Coast Swing is that there is always room for improvisation. The duo usually relies on each other to push off and “swing” one another around the floor.
We don’t know how much of this dance is improv, but it sure is smooth!
Twirling, sliding, and pulling each other across the floor, the two look like they are totally in control of what is happening. One of the coolest moments is when Jordan swings and does a small spin, then pulls Victoria into an incredible “tuck” under her own arms. It has to be one of the smoothest dance moves ever!
The couple continues to dance around the floor, completely owning it.
With a few more flourishes and some snazzy footwork, they circle back to the far right side (from our perspective) of the dance floor. Victoria does a few little leg shakes and gets the whole crowd shouting! Then, to finish off the dance, Jordan pulls her into a spin and lets her circle a few times while getting lower. Victoria hits the bottom of the spin, pulls up, and executes the next move perfectly!
After watching their calm and cool demeanor, it’s no wonder they won the whole championship!
