Pet owners and many experts agree that animals share our capacity for music and that they quite enjoy it.

There are times when animals react emotionally to “human music.”

In this unusual but adorable video, jazz musicians took their instruments and played a jazz concert for a herd of cows. Their reaction and curiosity were excellent!

The New Hot 5 brought some heat when this video became a viral sensation.

The New Hot 5 is an American jazz band and they became famous for their “Jazz for cows” video.

This is a professional ensemble, led by Dr. Steve Call, who is a music professor emeritus. These five talented men have played festive events all over the US and Europe, but playing for cows was an original move. Their instruments of choice are tuba, cimbasso, clarinet, trumpet, and trombone. This video was recorded in the French Alps. The audience enjoyed an American classic, “When the Saints Go Marching In,” as well as “Bill Bailey, Won’t You Please Come Home,” composed by Hughie Cannon.

Throughout the video, the cows’ level of curiosity is incredible.

When the video begins, the cows are in the field minding their own business. When the music starts, however, they slowly group together and amazingly form a line, as if they were at a real concert! That is the funniest part of the video—the cows are so intrigued by the sounds they hear, and they listen in carefully. Some people even commented that they were very polite, which is kind of true.

Not a single cow made any noises or movement, and the way they were captivated by the sound of wind instruments is definitely surprising.

Some of them were even wagging their tails! Every musician’s dream would be to have such an attentive audience: no coughing, no phones, and no talking.

We’re taking this video as full proof that animals are capable of more than we might imagine.

Videos like this are heart-melting because they make you think of animals differently.

Most of us would casually assume that an animal can’t feel half the things a human can, but this definitely proves otherwise. While this is certainly not the first video of animals showing some unexpected behavior, it’s definitely one of the cutest we’ve seen in a while! If music feeds one’s soul, these cows must be very soulful.

As the clip continues, there are also some people in the background enjoying the music and filming everything. The entire video is diverting and cute, but somehow also pure and different. After watching this, we’re thinking that cows seem like an animal that would be the best pet friend ever!

Since their viral fame, this jazz band recently released a fourth CD collection of jazz classics.

“Jazz for cows” was published on The New Hot 5’s YouTube channel in 2011.

Since then, almost 15 million people viewed this genuine concert. They emphasize on their official page that they have concerts for humans too, which is hard not to find hilarious. This band plays the music of Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton and many more—essentially, they play anything from the 1920s! Since the cows loved New Orleans jazz, the band also uploaded a second part of this video, which is available on YouTube as well. This video proves, once again, that music is the universal language. The only thing that could have made this better is if the cows started moo-ing and singing along—but let’s not stretch things too far though.
