What is one of the best-known power ballads, an enduring radio hit featured in numerous films?
If your guess was “I Want To Know What Love Is,” you are completely right. You might also know that Foreigner’s members have changed a lot in the previous two decades. So, why is this particular live show so special? Because, the new and the old incarnations of the band are all together on stage, playing and having fun.
When all those powerful musicians get together, the outcome is nothing shorter than a masterpiece.
One of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, British-American rock sensation Foreigner is a unique act in the world of music.
Foreigner had so many legendary and unforgettable songs that it could afford the luxury of changing lead singers without affecting the final product.
It all began with Mick Jones and Al Greenwood, who formed the band in 1976.
The original Foreigner was complete when Lou Gramm and Ed Gagliardi joined in. Their debut album sold over four million copies in the United States, which was an amazing start.
After Gramm’s departure in 1990, Johnny Edwards took the mic.
In 1992 Gramm rejoined the band, but had to leave again in 1997 because of health problems. Eventually, Kelly Hansen stepped in, and he remains Foreigner’s current lead singer.
It was the first time in the band’s 40-year history that the original members did a gig with Foreigner’s current lineup.
We’re seeing a 2017 live show at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Something special is going on because it’s Foreigner’s 40th anniversary. Of course, the group had to do something special to celebrate. They decided to surprise their fans a bit and get together.
Everyone’s here—current members and old ones, including Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliott, Al Greenwood, and Ian McDonald.
It’s a phenomenal thing to see, and we’re guessing that will bring back a lot of memories. You get to see the band’s history on stage, which is a fantastic experience, considering that they all were part of Foreigner’s successful journey at some point.
It’s something different, and seeing them having so much fun together reminds us that it’s not about money or fame—it’s about music.
“I Want To Know What Love Is” the lead single from the band’s 1984 fifth studio album, and it proved to be an excellent choice for such a reunion.
The audience is ecstatic—you can hear them screaming and cheering during the whole show!
While Gramm is a bit shyer, Hansen animates the audience and screams that “everybody should reach out and put their arm around somebody.”
Makes sense—the song they’re about to play is a very romantic one. What got us the most is how proud Lou seemed to go on with the show and to see that he’s still got it.
The man’s kept his voice quite well, and we’re glad to see him happy after a long struggle with several health problems.
Everyone sounds amazing, they look joyful, and they’re having so much fun.
Imagine what the 50th anniversary will look like!
Since this performance was posted, the video has earned more than nine million YouTube views.
We’re proud of all the people who were ever involved with this much-loved band. It’s always been about the music for them, that’s why it feels so good when Foreigner is on stage together.
