Dancing is a beautiful form of expression that can oftentimes captivate a crowd. One pair of mini-dancers managed to do just that when they performed a stunning duet to the song “Footprints in the Sand” – and now, they’re melting the internet’s heart too.
Six-year-old Penelope Gomez and five-year-old Belle Arauz are both students of the Spotlight Dance Academy in Miami, Florida. The video below takes place at a 2020 Nexstar National Talent Competition, where the girls took the stage for a lyrical duet.
It all begins with them holding hands.
The youngsters’ routine is beautifully paired up with the tune “Footprints in the Sand,” which comes from the British music artist Leona Lewis. Together it’s a powerful mixture.
With the music in the background, Penelope and Belle start with a couple of footsteps almost as if walking on the beach (from what it appears). Only a moment later they separate, and you can see their faces are full of sorrow and deep emotion.
Get ready for a graceful routine put on by two very talented dancers.
Penelope and Belle demonstrate incredible flexibility and dance techniques on stage, all while staying in character with the song. It’s quite impressive to see how skilled they are at such young ages – which surely took a lot of hard work and dedication to achieve.

Singer Leona Lewis was the winner of X Factor Season 3, and “Footprints in the Sand” appeared on her 2017 hit-album Spirit. Its theme has a connection to the classic Christian poem, “Footprints.”
It’s impossible not to feel the emotion as Penelope and Belle dance to the heart-tugging lyrics. They talk of a promise of always being there when needed and during the hard times in life.
“When your heart is filled with sorrow and despair
And I’ll carry you
When you need a friend
You’ll find my footprints in the sand”
Penelope and Belle’s performance is quite spectacular and is made up of a mixture of dance techniques done in a synchronized fashion (for the most part).
According to LiveAbout, the lyrical dance style combines elements of jazz and ballet into one fluid dance. The dancer expresses emotion with their movements, such as joy, love, anger, etc. To go along with lyrical dance, typically expressive and emotional music is chosen.
The routine was choreographed by Spotlight Dance Academy’s Director, Jennifer Travieso.
As we can see in these tiny girls’ dance, their moves blend well with the song and their emotions can be felt watching from afar. They even slightly embrace during the parts that revolve around needing a friend.
At the end of the performance, the dancers are celebrated with a well-deserved round of applause.
On top of entertaining the audience, the internet has also been impressed. Viewers online have left compliments like:
