There’s a lot of work that goes into a high school pep rally. And when that day finally comes we see all the hard work and effort made by the football players, cheerleaders, and coaches.

But what you don’t see is all the work done by the parents.

They spend their days ushering their kids back and forth to practice, feeding them healthy meals, paying for extracurricular activities and equipment, nursing injuries, volunteering at events, and being positive role models that encourage their children to do their best.

So, when it was time for the Steele High School pep rally some of the moms decided that it was their turn to enjoy some of the spotlight.

April Williams decided she would enlist 11 other moms and volunteers to perform a special dance routine to encourage her son C.J. and his fellow football players on the team.

“The boys are doing really well this year and we wanted to something to show our support for them,” April told My San Antonio.

Their routine to Silento’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),” iLoveMemphis’ “Hit the Quan,” and other songs was a complete secret to the crowd.

The ladies walked out onto the basketball court in white masks, so no one knew who they were. They then spread out and took off their mask to reveal that they are in fact the football moms. They Whip, Nae Nae, and do the Stanky leg as the crowd goes wild. You can tell that they are feelin’ themselves as they hold onto each other’s shoulders and bust out some awesome dance moves.

Mom Melissa Fields said it took a lot of practice to make sure they got all their moves down right because they knew the teens know exactly how those moves are done.

One of the school students, Jada Brown, actually choreographed their routine.

“My legs were shaky and it felt like my knees were going to buckle,” Melissa said. “It was cool to come out of our comfort zone and show support for the boys. If I went to a club right now, I wouldn’t know what to do. I went on YouTube and thought ‘oh no,’ there is no way we would be able to pull this off.”

But she did and it was well worth it to see her son’s reaction.

“I think my son’s first reaction was ‘you’ve gotta be kidding me – dad, why did you let mom sign up for this,” she said. But once the music cut off, there were hugs all around between the proud boys and their moms.”
