Do you remember when in 2015, Dave Grohl broke his leg during a performance in Sweden and finished the concert anyway?

The Foo Fighters frontman didn’t want to disappoint his fans. We’re talking about a very dedicated musician who gives his 100% to the audience.

And is there anything better than a super unexpected surprise for the crowd?

Here you have it—Grohl invites Rick Astley on stage and they nail a phenomenal live cover of Astley’s most famous song.

Regarded as one of the “last classic rock bands” out there, Foo Fighters took everyone by surprise with performance of “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

Formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1994, the Foo Fighters have always been the kind of radio-friendly grunge.

The band’s frontman, Dave Grohl, first introduced himself to a worldwide audience as Nirvana’s drummer.

He later proved to be a very talented musician and an excellent songwriter. Foo Fighters have won 12 Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album four times. It’s hard to think of a rock band as catchy as Foo Fighters are. Rick Astley, on the other hand, is an English pop singer and radio personality. He rose to prominence with his 1987 debut single “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

It’s funny how the smash hit song made its comeback in 2007 when it became an internet phenomenon.

Astley’s fan integrated the song to the bait and switch meme known as “rickrolling.” Whenever unsuspecting users clicked on a disguised hyperlink, it would lead them directly to the song video—and then things escalated quickly.

In the middle of their concert, Foo Fighters stopped the show and Grohl announced a guest that no one expected.

The surprise act is part of the band’s 2017 concert in The O2 Arena in London.

When Rick Astley appeared in front of the crowd, everyone screamed enthusiastically—and you can see that most of them recognized the legendary Rick.

Since Dave shouted when announcing Astley he also began shouting, and Grohl asked him why he was doing that.

He replied that it’s because he’s nervous. What an excellent, honest way to break the ice! After that, they proceeded to play a phenomenal version of “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

Amazingly, the crowd came to see Foo Fighters—but everyone still knows the words to a pop song from the 80s!

Of course, it’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know this song—it’s almost some kind of anthem. However, we have to take a moment and appreciate just how good Foo Fighters are.

Their playing is incredible, and we enjoyed hearing the grunge rendition of Astley’s biggest hit.

When Rick began to sing, the whole arena sang alone.

Since rickrolling means that the song pops up unexpectedly, we can confidently say that the stadium full of people got rickrolled and they had so much fun.

One thing that left us in awe is how youthful Astley is. Who would guess that he’s three years older than Dave?

If you want to see how things turned the other way around, check out Rick Astley’s cover of “Everlong.”

You can find the song here. Because their collaboration turned out so well, Astley is now an occasional vocalist at Foo Fighters concerts.

The video was viewed more than six million times, and we loved that the band made the intro sound a little bit like Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

That’s the kind of unobtrusive homage that you simply have to respect.
