Monster Piano is a company that manufactures floor pianos that are well, monstrous! To show how they work, a group of young men and women put one into action.
From the moment they jump on, they move their feet at lightning speed creating a vibrant song that fills the room. Even the keys light up purple adding to the magic of the performance.
There’s a good chance your first introduction to the floor piano came from the 1988 film Big.
Who can forget the classic scene when grown-up Josh Baskin plays “Heart and Soul” with Mr. MacMillan at FAO Schwarz toy store? According to the website of the “Big Piano,” it’s “arguably the most famous piano” because of this memorable part of the movie.
Remo Saraceni is the creator of the Big Piano (aka The Walking Piano), which was installed at FAO Schwarz’s famous New York City location back in 1982. Since then, other Big Pianos have been added to various large establishments like children’s hospitals, museums, and public areas across the globe.
The piano the young adults are playing in the video is five octaves, which means it’s 20 feet long!
According to the Monster Piano website, their product makes for an excellent teaching tool, is great for entertainment at weddings and events, can be used for advertising, or simply to have fun. It blends music, dance, and play into one massive instrument – opening “a whole new world of artistic expression.”
It seems as if the group in the video has played the floor piano before – because they’re all quite good!
Each person controls their own section of the keyboard using solely their feet. While the energetic song they’re playing isn’t known for certain – some viewers have chimed in believing it’s a rendition of Turkish music artist Petek Dinçöz’s “Kısmetsizim.”
On top of it looking like a total blast to play the giant piano, it’s a unique way to get an amazing workout for both your body and your mind.
The five pianists in the video completely rock the instrument with their feet, staying synchronized throughout the song. It’s hard not to get mesmerized by it all – between the sight and the sounds, which together create an extraordinary performance that’s been “liked” 76K on YouTube.
