So you can play an instrument. Good for you. The piano you say? That’s cool! So how do you play the piano? “With my hands of course” I bet is your answer. Well cute. But not impressive enough. Anyone can play the piano with their hands because… well duh.
But if you can play the instrument with your feet, then THAT is impressive. Like these two.
It’s not just a giant piano. It’s a giant, floor piano! Now the older (sorry) folk reading this would probably remember the movie “Big”, starring Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia where the two play on a floor piano in Mr. MacMillan’s (Loggia) toy store.
Tom Hanks is Josh Baskin, a young boy who makes a wish on an unplugged arcade fortune teller machine. So basically, Tom’s character turns into a man and gets a job at the toy store. For the younger readers, do watch it. It’s a great film.
So anyway, this video was taken at a place called Weserpark mall in Bremen, Germany. The man’s name is Alexander Dennis Volk, also known as Mister Piano. The name itself sounds promising. Volk decided to recreate that iconic scene from the 1988 film with a partner of his. Check out her leggings!
They set up a giant floor piano and got ready to pay homage to the scene. They’ve already attracted a lot of attention so better beeindrucke die Menge.
Dennis Volk starts it off with a warm up. A few keys here and there before he steps off to an applause. He smiles at his female partner and soon, both hop on the floor piano and start playing. That is “Heart and Soul” too, the very same piece Hanks and Loggia played in the film.
They don’t miss a key, not even a misstep. It is such a delight to watch, and the melody is so light it sort of brings the feeling of a warm, sunny day under the trees just enjoying a cool drink by the sea.
Volk is also dressed to match the piano just like his partner. Soon, they jump off the piano to a clapping audience and not long after, his female partner jumps back on to play the melody as Volk gets the crowd clapping.
They’re loving the second version! The onlookers clap along to the uplifting melody that is so enchanting even the kids are loving it!
And what about the online viewers? Well this video already has over 5.2 million views with comments such as,
“That was an amazing piano performance one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen”
and this one,
“There was one thing wrong with this performance and it was NOTHING I LOVED IT”
We did too. That was such a wonderful display of talent. And we appreciate the small details too. Those matching piano themed outfits are really cute. Notice how they do a certain skip and kick step when they hop on those huge keys?
That’s how entertainers do it. Everything right down to the smallest details are important when producing a crowd pleasing show. Hats off to Mister Piano and his lovely partner for putting a smile on people’s faces.
