It was another normal day in London.

Central London railway terminal, St. Pancras International, bustled lightly with commuter traffic. People weaved in and out of the arrival and departure gates, going about their travel plans. The entire atmosphere was business as usual and it was New Year’s Eve 2010.

On any given weekday, hundreds of thousands of people set foot in the station.

Traveling via the Eurostar railway, commuters can reach Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

On this particular day, everyone had little clue as to what would happen next.

Before long, a man casually enters the crowd and he blends in so as not to draw attention. No sooner does he put on the ultimate swagger! Michael Jackson’s familiar “Billie Jean” begins to sift across the airwaves while the man seamlessly recreates Jackson’s iconic dance moves, much to the surprise of passing travelers.

A crowd starts to gather as his impeccable dance moves gain attention.

A few onlookers gather close to him, delighting in his talent. And in the very next moment, they trade their surprise for synchronized dance moves of their own! It starts to become clear that a show is afoot, a treat for anyone at the station that day.

Without warning, the dancers began to grow in number, and the soundtrack cycles into a medley of well-loved pop and funk tunes.

It’s safe to say that the travelers in the station are caught by surprise. Instead of being hindered by the surprise performance, they are astonished by the fluid moves of the troupe, smiling and grooving to the music. Some dance along, bobbing their heads, while others stop to photograph and video record the spectacle.

As the soundtrack progresses, more dancers gather, turning the scene into an impromptu flash mob!

The dancers assemble together in full force to offer an amazing display of synchronized moves across a feel-good pallet of popular songs. The crowd swells, supporting them with applause and laughter—a wonderful moment and breath to take away from the day.

The entire surprise performance was put on by London’s award-winning professional dance company, Living The Dream.

This talented bunch of dancers specializes in events, flash mobs and PR stunts. It was created in 2006 by Zoe Jackson to help champion young talent, as well as allow youth to realize their dreams through performance arts. Expression is the ultimate inspiration, hence a company title of “Living the Dream.”

Their school is run by young people for young people.

Proceeds help fund their charity called The Dream Foundation, which does outreach for disadvantaged children, and supports their confidence to follow their dreams. The troupe’s breathtaking performances have been widely recognized and appreciated, including performing for the Queen herself! Their dedication and efforts show.

Their 2010 New Year’s Eve flash mob was no exception!

What better way to communicate such a positive message than through an astonishing feel-good act? After the group disbands, people from the crowd are interviewed to comment on their witness. They leave the cameras with nothing but smiles and positive reactions. The result was a positive and uplifting experience for everyone involved.
