If you’re a fan of reality singing competition shows, chances are you’ve spent plenty of time with the Got Talent franchise.
Like many other shows of its kind, the premise is relatively simple: contestants are asked to perform whatever their unique talent is for a panel of judges.
If the judges approve, the contestants can continue—but the judges can also hit their buzzers to vote them out of the round. Though the version that most people are probably familiar with is America’s Got Talent, the truth is that the franchise has all kinds of different shows all around the world.
This performance in particular came from Sweden.
Though we typically think of these competition shows as being mainly for adults, the truth is that teens can often perform quite well on them too.
In this case, the contestant was a 13-year-old girl named Dao. Like any other audition, it began with her walking out onstage and introducing herself to the judges before continuing on to her talent.
As with many other contestants, her talent was singing. The song she chose was “Fix You” by Coldplay, and after a little bit of banter, the judges cleared the way for her to perform.
After the first backing notes of the song started, she was ready to sing.
Once she takes a breath, her voice comes out—and all the judges are stunned.
Although she seemed confident from the beginning, nobody expected her voice to sound so smooth, clear and beautiful.
Right after the first few notes, the audience already has to give her a quick burst of applause and cheers. By the time she gets to the chorus, everybody in the room is on the edge of their seats. For their part, the judges are getting misty-eyed at just how delicate her voice really is.
After the first chorus, the crowd gives her another huge round of applause.
Though the song was already moving enough in its original version, Dao’s version breaths a whole new life into it.
As the song continues, the energy builds and builds and her voice gets all the more passionate. While the emotion grows, the judges gradually get overcome by emotion all on their own.
Before long, her beautiful voice has moved some of the judges to tears! When the very end of the song comes around, the melody climbs even higher and her voice climbs effortlessly along with it.
Finally, she brings everything to a gentle close—and the crowd roars with applause.
Although there have been all kinds of great performances on the Got Talent franchise over the years, this was one of the most moving.
While there are plenty of adults who get onstage after years of practice and sing their hearts out, it’s much rarer for someone as young as 13 to already be so self-assured.
Still, Dao knew exactly what she was doing onstage that day and it resulted in a huge outpouring of emotion from everybody involved! Needless to say, this is just more proof that all it takes is passion and self-confidence to really go for your dreams.
