Is there anyone on Earth who hasn’t heard of Frank Sinatra? Just in case, Sinatra is one of the all-time great singers of our time with an iconic tone and a smooth vocal delivery. Even for people who aren’t actually big fans of Sinatra’s music, they are likely to instantly recognize some of his greatest hits. He sang songs like “My Way,” “Strangers in the Night” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” One of his most famous is “Fly Me to the Moon,” a song so recognizable even little children recognize it.
Some children, like the one in this story, have even taken a crack at performing it!
In a clip posted to YouTube, five-year-old Sophie Fatu decided she would take on “Fly Me to the Moon” in her own style.
Sophie has a YouTube channel with her mom Victoria Fatu dedicated to their adventures. Many of the videos include Sophie’s singing performances—many of which are other Sinatra covers! Still, this one is pretty impressive! As the song starts, Sophie has an adorable smile on her face and bounces up and down to the get the rhythm.
Then she starts—and her voice is spot on.
Even though she’s only five years old, Sophie has no problem following the notes!
Her voice is powerful and she projects very well, even mimicking Sinatra’s luxuriant delivery in all the right places. Aside from her voice and the rhythm, she also has a very impressive vibrato for a five-year-old—it would even be impressive on an adult! As the song reaches its crescendo, Sophie’s voice rises right along with it without missing a beat. She really belts along at the end until the music finally falls out.
Then, Sophie blows a kiss into the microphone and finishes the performance.
Sophie’s performance is a great tribute to Sinatra’s music—and an incredible show of skill in its own right.
For those who were fans of this performance, Victoria and Sophie post plenty of videos on their own channel with many more song covers as well. Above all, Sophie shows us that you’re never too young to get interested in music—and you can listen to whatever kinds of music you want to. Finally, she also shows us all that amazing musical talent can exist at any age.
We’re looking forward to seeing more from you in the future, Sophie!
