Though it may go without saying, there are more talented people in the world than we likely know what to do with.

In the days of old media, many talented people had to perform on their own and build their own audiences for years in the hopes of one day becoming popular.

In some cases, they would take meetings with the heads of entertainment studios to try to get contracts or deals. These days, there are so many free online outlets to market yourself and reality competition shows where people can audition to get discovered.

The one we’re talking about today came from the 2016 season of The Voice Portugal.

For those who don’t know, The Voice is an international franchise with different versions of itself all around the world.

Unlike a more straightforward show like American Idol, The Voice has a few interesting twists that differentiate it. For one thing, all the contestants come out to do a “blind audition” for a panel of judges who have their backs turned.

If they like what they hear, they can hit their buzzers to turn around and compete to get the singer on their team. At the end of each season, there’s a winning contestant and a winning vocal coach for each season.

And the performer we’re talking about today was Fernando Daniel.

Although Daniel sailed through the audition rounds with ease, his other performances on the show were just as noteworthy.

In the final rounds, Daniel decided to sing “Chandelier” by Sia, an emotional ballad about being a “party girl” and the loneliness that can come with it.

Although it’s a powerful song, it’s also well-beloved by fans and not the easiest song to sing. Regardless, Daniel decided to put his own unique spin on it by slowing it down and making it a little more dramatic.

From the very beginning, it’s clear just how powerful the performance is going to be.

It’s clear that Daniel understands the spirit of the song, and from the very first notes, he’s perfectly in tune.

Although the song hits some incredibly high notes, Daniel finds a way to keep a gentleness in his voice even as he swings between low and high notes with complete ease.

Although the original version of the song plays up the drama and the danger of the subject matter, Daniel turns it into something very sad and delicate instead.

At one point, one of the audience members actually calls out in the middle because the performance is so good!

Towards the end, Daniel adds a whole new level of power to it!

Since the clip was posted, it has been watched nearly nine million times on YouTube. Although there have been plenty of impressive performances on The Voice over the years, this one was truly one to remember. It was a very confident reinterpretation of a highly popular song.

As Daniel’s performance shows, having a great voice is definitely important, but picking the right song and delivering it with panache is hugely important as well. Needless to say, he delivered with this performance!
