Our parents do so much for us over the years that it’s only right we have a few days a year to celebrate them.
When Mother’s and Father’s Day roll around, we want to make sure we do something special to honor all the work that our parents do for us.
Without their love and support, none of us would grow up to be the people we are today. Still, sometimes special circumstances make us go above and beyond on those days to show our family how much they really mean to us.
That was definitely the case for the family in this video.
The clip was uploaded by Kate Peyvatin, a young singer with her own YouTube channel.
As the video begins, her brother, Christian Peytavin, speaks directly to the camera. As he explains, he and his father both have Li-Fraumeni syndrome—also known as the “ticking time bomb” disorder.
As he explains, it’s a rare genetic mutation that makes them both much more prone to develop cancer. As it turns out, the disorder can make people have an 80-90% of getting cancer in their lifetime.
As Christian explains, their father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and it had already spread to his lymph nodes.
As a result of the diagnosis, the Peytavin’s father had to keep undergoing invasive surgeries.
Because of his genetic condition, their father continually has difficulty keeping his health in check and has to go through all kinds of therapy.
Through all of the hardships, the family decided to plan a surprise for their dad on Father’s Day. To do that, the kids rewrote the words to Lukas Graham’s song “7 Years” to reflect their love and devotion to their dad.
To pull off the surprise, they even planted a band in downtown Baton Rouge to help out.
When the big day came, the family was out downtown walking around when they stopped to watch the band.
After a while, the lead singer said that his voice was blown out and they needed someone from the crowd to come on stage and sing.
Before long, Kate walks up on stage to applause from everyone gathered there. The music starts to play and Kate sings the family’s own unique lyrics to her dad. Meanwhile, all of their Dad’s friends are in the audience as well.
Before long, their dad starts to catch on to what’s happening!
As the song continues, plenty of the crowd has tears in their eyes for the moving surprise.
Towards the end of the song, the song goes more explicitly into the details of their dad’s illness and everyone is so moved. When it’s all over, the whole crowd claps as loud as they can. It’s clear that their dad had a pretty incredible Father’s Day! Since the clip was uploaded, it has been viewed some 11 million times—and it’s easy to see why.
Although Father’s Day means a lot to anybody no matter what the situation, it’s clear that these kids went above and beyond. Just as our parents pick us up when we’re down, it’s important sometimes that we can do the same for them. Needless to say, the Peyvatin kids did just that.
Congratulations to these kids for pulling off a great surprise! Be sure to watch the entire thing in the link below:
