Opera is one of the trickiest things for anybody to sing. But on “Britain’s Got Talent,” a talented father and daughter duo made it look easy!

Martin Lambert and his 10-year-old daughter Faye auditioned for “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2017. They began their audition by nervously walking onto the stage and introducing themselves to the judges. The audition got off to a hilarious start when judge Amanda Holden asked how old Martin was. Faye immediately looked stricken, and Martin jokingly said:

“She’s not allowed to say.”

Then, the judges asked why they chose to audition for “Britain’s Got Talent.”

Martin said when he discovered Faye could sing, he decided it would be fun to try auditioning together. Martin also explained that he was a professional singer.

Then, it was time for the audition. Martin and Faye chose to sing Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer.”

Faye sang on her own for the first few verses, and it was quickly clear that she had a beautiful, operatic voice. She put all her heart and soul into singing her lyrics.

After that, Faye and Martin began singing together. Their voices melded wonderfully.

They finished by belting out a beautiful high note together. The audience all gave them a standing ovation!

Then, it was time for the judges to begin giving their feedback. Judge David Walliams went first, and he had high praise for the singers.

“On paper, you might’ve thought, ‘Oh, this little 10-year-old girl and her father singing opera together, it might not work,’ but it was absolutely lovely,” David Walliams said.

Judge Alesha Dixon went next, and she also praised the father-daughter duo. Then, it was Simon Cowell’s turn. Like usual, Simon had a different take than the other judges.

“Faye, you started off the better, Martin, you were good on the first chorus. So I’m slightly confused here,” Simon said. “Because I don’t know if it’s the right thing or the wrong thing that you two are still singing together.”

The crowd fell silent at this feedback, and the other judges also looked at Simon in shock. But then, Martin spoke up, and he gave a response that melted everybody’s heart.

“Can I say, if you put her through, I’ll go,” Martin said.

Simon quickly explained that he didn’t want to get rid of either of them, he was just wondering if doing a duet was the right thing for them. Then, Simon showed how much he liked the singers by giving them a ‘yes.’

The other judges also said ‘yes,’ and just like that Faye and Martin had advanced to the next round!

Faye and Martin ended up making it all the way to the semi-finals. For that performance, they sang “There’s a Place for Us.”

Although Faye and Martin didn’t end up winning “Britain’s Got Talent,” they haven’t stopped performing together. The duo regularly performs around their hometown of Cheshire.
