Every girl probably dreams about dancing with their father.
Some daughters think that dancing with their father on their wedding day is like a once-in-a-lifetime event. It definitely is something to look forward to, right? It makes them smile as they imagine that magical and unforgettable moment unfold.
But for Sydney Kimble West, dancing with her Dad is not just a wedding day affair. It is part of her life-long passion for dancing!
You see, Sydney’s father is not just any dancer. He’s Sam West and he is a legendary shag dancer.
Back in 1994, Sam bagged the Non-Pro National title and eventually the Overall National Shag Championship, together with his dance partner Melissa Calabrese. They were unstoppable on the dance floor and after those notable achievements, this guy was nowhere near stopping.
“Then in 1995 Sam partnered up with his sister, Sarah, and they went on to capture 8 Professional Division titles and 4 Overall titles. Sam also won the Pro and Overall Shag titles in 2001 with Jackie McGee, again in 2006, 2007 and 2008 with Jessica McAlhany, then in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2017 with Leslie Jennings, and in 2014 and 2016 with Krystal Taylor Davis.”
Now, that’s quite an achievement! But that was not even the end of it.
Sam was also the top victor in the Carolina Shag Division at the USA Grand National Dance Championships and he did it not just once, not twice but seven times! Apart from this winning streak, Sam also went on to become a 3-time US Open Shag Champion and a 3-time Entertainer of the Weekend at the Grand Nationals. Wow!
Dancing is something that Sam also shares with his wife, Lisa, who is also a seasoned dancer. The two of them teach dance these days. And one of their students is their daughter, Sydney.
She learned her moves from her parents, and clearly, she also was determined on making it big as a dancer.
Sydney also joins national-level competitions and her dance partner? Her Dad, of course!
Just last year, Sydney was a part of the 2020 National SHAG Dance Championships, wherein she participated with her Dad, Sam, as her dance partner. And let me tell you, Sam may have been older, but he’s still got it!
The contest included various dancers of all ages and they are faced with some tough competition, for sure. But, this father-daughter duo is the one to beat!
The crowd was in for a treat.
When the song “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King played in the air, Sam and Sydney instantly danced and wowed their audience. It was a beautiful display of their undeniable talent and charisma.
Sam’s decades of experience in dancing showed and people watching were awed by his smooth and precise moves. It’s hard to stop your body from dancing once you see this incredible duo!
Sydney is also a great dancer.
We can easily see where the talent came from as we watch Sydney groove to the music. She’s in control of her body, swaying and spinning with much finesse and grace. She’s not letting her Dad get all the attention, because she is also one formidable foe on that dance floor.
Their moves are quite captivating and we can see why Sam was a champion back in the day. Sydney surely is talented and this talent runs in the family.
Champions once more.
It is not surprising that the results were in favor of this father-daughter tandem. This is not the first time they joined the Professional Division of the competition and this time, they won again!
