Among iconic country songs, “Jolene” had to be one of the most famous.
It was written and performed by an American country music artist Dolly Parton, who originally released it 1973. She also once said that it was the song most recorded by other artists of all the songs she’d written.
This video brings us a family version of “Jolene” by The Petersens, a family band from Branson, Missouri.
It must be nice to have a family that shares your talent and love of music!
The band has six members and together they make a unique sound that is sure to send chills down your spine.
Fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, and dobro are their instruments of choice, and together they build up an unusual and harmonic sound.
This family clearly has music in their blood, and all the members somehow manage to sound perfectly tuned and very skilled playing together.
The video description says that they filmed this in the living room, on separate microphones.
We’re guessing that their neighbors must be happy—they get to hear this beautiful music for free!
This video radiates a pleasant warmth and makes you want to sit down and spend some time with your family.
The Petersens definitely give off a party vibe with their performance, which is a little different from the sadder sounds of the original. As we listen, we can practically hear a group of people headed west, their carriages stopping to rest in the moonlight… in that scene, somebody would light a fire and this song would be playing in the background!
The most beautiful part of all this is the fact that the family is visibly very close—just look at the brother looking at his sister and smiling proudly!
Their bond is sure to bring a tear to your eye. All the family members are very skilled with instruments, but the mom is an exceptionally good bass player.
Listening to The Petersens’ performance, viewers will definitely agree that they’re all so talented.
Though everyone certainly knows how to play their instrument, the mom deserves a lot of credit. First of all, she raised her kids so well and their relationships are enough to make anyone jealous. But second, she’s also so groovy on the bass!
She knows just the right volume and tempo she needs to play to make all the other instruments sound cohesive.
It’s not something you can quickly learn; it’s a rare talent that this woman has, and one she passed it on to her children. We can only imagine how much love and good times this family had together growing up!
As it turns out, The Petersens are an award-winning band—and Ellen Peterson even competed on American Idol.
Most families can’t even be together in the same room for too long, but The Petersens can’t get enough of each other.
This band is recognized for its refreshingly all-acoustic sound.
The group became internationally famous after they competed at the International Bluegrass Competition in Nashville and earned fourth place. Their YouTube channel has 117,000 subscribers and they often perform at the Little Opry Theatre in Branson.
The Petersens’ official website offers more information on their tour dates and merchandise.
