AMC’s The Walking Dead is definitely no laughing matter. In fact, the gritty show is notorious for the emotional toll it takes on its fans. But we have just the ticket if you’re looking for some comic relief, whether you’re a fan of Ross Marquard and the show… or not.
You may be familiar with Ross Marquand’s darker side from his role as Aaron in The Walking Dead — it’s a role that he takes very seriously.
But did you know that the actor is also seriously good at impressions?
We found a little gem on YouTube that showcases Ross Marquand’s spectacular shape-shifting abilities, as well as his lighter side. It begins with Ross Marquand walking jauntily down the hallway, whistling as he reaches his apartment door. He steps in and is met with chaos.
Celebrities sit in a circle. “What is this?!” Ross cries, clutching his chest.
The camera cuts to a man slouching forward in his chair. In his trademark Italian-New Yorker accent, James Gandolfini says “… It’s an intervention.”
“But… I don’t even do that many drugs,” Ross stammers.
Jack Nicholson, with a sardonic grin plastered on his face, raises his hands and explains. “It’s not a drug intervention. It’s an impression intervention.”
Ross Marquard’s confusion sets in. We feel it too. What is happening? Then, it dawns on us.
Ross Marquand is playing every part in the “impress-a-vention.” He masterfully slides into each character and, with some clever editing, he does it seamlessly. With some quick changes of clothes between shots, he creates an illusion that all of these celebrities are in the room with him.
And the result is both uncanny and hilarious.
Besides James Gandolfini and Jack Nicholson, Ross argues with Gary Busey, Al Pacino, and Colin Farrel. Ross insists that he doesn’t make any money from doing celebrity impressions, but the A-listers aren’t happy.
Matthew McConaughey, wearing only a bathrobe, interrupts: “It’s rude. It’s about honoring your fellow man.”
Justin Timberlake appears. He assures Ross that they are all “flattered.” The camera cuts to Kevin Spacey, who doesn’t agree. The argument goes back and forth, between Ross and the unimpressed actors.
The camera cycles dizzyingly to John Malkovich, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jason Statham. Brad Pitt even makes an appearance to comment on Ross’ annoying habit.
Ross Marquand cleverly and skillfully delivers the surreal conversation, impersonating more than ten of the most well-loved actors in Hollywood (and a few surprises!)
And this isn’t the first time Ross Marquand has dazzled his fans with his hilarious impersonations…
The star has been known to mimic Christopher Walken (a famously difficult accent to get right), Liam Neeson, and Hunter S. Thompson. But nobody will ever catch him impersonating his Walking Dead co-stars.
“It’s kind of a policy of mine not to do people that I work with because you never know how it could backfire,” Marquand confessed at the San Jose Fan Fest in December. “It backfired on me a few years ago with a very famous actor, and they were like, ‘That’s not what I sound like.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna go home and die now.’”
