Do you know salsa, rumba, and cha-cha?
Guess what? Latin dance has changed a lot and its evolution paved its way to more types of dances that you should know.
This video is surely an entertaining way to inform netizens about dances.
A video posted by FLAMA on YouTube on June 30, 2016 earned them one million views.
The video was all about showing the evolution of Latin dance through dancing each one. Highly entertaining and informative, the dancers Jen Morel and Alejandro Rey showed incredible skill and talent in this five-minute video.
It all starts with rumba, the famous “dance of love.”
Accompanied by soft and sensual sounding music, the dancers pulled off the dance with a hint of passion and a romantic feel. The steps are smooth and slow with the execution of a hip action called the “Cuban Motion.”
After that was the cha-cha—counted 1-2-3, cha-cha, 1-2-3, cha-cha!
Unlike the rumba, cha-cha features a modified Cuban hip motion and the music is more fun. The dancers showed us a more flirty side of cha-cha with their exuberant dance steps.
Next was mambo–and Alejandro is now wearing a fedora hat!
This Cuban dance features a faster music accompaniment and stronger body rhythm. The dancers really enjoyed the dance performing its swivels and spins which are features mambo is known for.
Next comes salsa—like the mambo, salsa features a fun tune but with lots of horns and drums as well.
We have to give kudos to the cinematographer and editor for this video after their on-point transition from mambo to salsa!
After the last spin, the dancers were shown wearing white clothes instead of black. They showed off with a series of spins, quick drops and even a backflip carrying them to the end.
Next to the list is cumbia—and with its fast-paced accompaniment, the dancers have to be nimble on their feet.
They portrayed a quick full-spins and half-spins, and Alejandro even swung Jen around his back with ease.
After that was merengue, and when Jen dropped her feet to the floor, the beat became more energetic.
The dancers executed a counter-clockwise trip with a marching rhythm. They spun around the dance floor quite a lot this time and still had enough energy to do the next part!
That part was bachata—a mix of salsa, tango and merengue.
Spinning is still present in this dance but the dancers executed more hip motions than the other three dances. The music was more sensual and flirty, with more upper torso movement by Jen.
Next up was perreo, a Puerto Rican dance that offers more modern moves than the previous dances.
The dance focuses on grinding or front-to-back dance in which the dancers skillfully did. Jen with the help of his partner executed a front-flip followed with a few more stunts.
The last dance was dembow, featuring reggaeton and dancehall characteristics in its music.
The dancers executed this dance with side-by-side marching steps, a lot of hip movement and creative arm motions. This dance can be observed in parties and dance clubs.
Still, if you liked this video, there’s also a part two waiting for you on YouTube!
Jen Morel and Alejandro Rey’s talented display of these dances is jaw-dropping. Aside from entertainment, they casually informed netizens all over about the rich culture of the Latin dances. If you want to watch more of these, they have the second part of this already posted on YouTube!
