Once again, Dancing With The Stars has given fans a reason to cry.
The popular dancing competition show is currently in its 27th season and still going strong. While the competition is beginning to narrow down, one performance has stood out amongst the others.
Evanna Lynch was announced to be a contestant on this season and that had Harry Potter fans intrigued. Evanna was paired up with DWTS pro, Keo Motsepe.
The British actress is famed for playing popular Harry Potter character, Luna Lovegood. And while Evanna isn’t quite as in-the-clouds as Luna, she sure is as sweet. Which has made her a fan favorite among Potterheads.
A popular week on Dancing With The Stars is the “Most Memorable Year” week, where the competitors choose a song an a moment in their life when everything really changed for them.
Most celebrities pick the year that they became famous or a year that they lost a loved one. For Evanna, she chose when she was cast as Luna Lovegood in 2006.
Some fans might not have known this, but Evanna actually was picked by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling herself, after they’d become penpals.
When Evanna was younger, she struggled with eating disorders and she only found comfort in the Harry Potter series. Evanna decided to write to J.K. Rowling and she was blown away when the mega-famous author actually answered her.
While she was in and out of the hospital for her eating disorder, Evanna would receive encouraging letters from J.K. Rowling that helped motivate her to get healthy.
In her pre-recorded interview, Evanna said:
“Her kindness really made me want to live again. I love the feeling of creating and acting, more than I love the feeling of being skinny or ‘perfect.’”
Evanna first appeared as Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. She reprised the role in the following Harry Potter fans. She has also maintained her status in the Wizarding World by attending fan conventions and Harry Potter events.
For her performance, Evanna and Keo picked the famous Harry Potter theme song to dance to, “Hedwig’s Theme” and it was quite an emotional ride.
After the performance, it was shared on Dancing With The Star’s Facebook page, with the caption: “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.” The video got over 500,000 views on Facebook, 8,000 likes, and 1,400 comments, with nearly 4,000 shares.
The performance was so beautiful, one Facebook user said:
I cried! It was so perfect! I’m a huge Potterhead and Luna is my favorite character. I’ve always related to her so much!
One Facebook user said:
The set, the lighting, the costumes all contributed to capturing the feel of the magical world of Harry Potter. Beautiful.
Evanna and Keo have made it all the way to the DWTS season 27 finals. It must be magic helping her get along and earning perfect scores along the way.
