A few years ago, a young boy named Walker was running for student body president.
He had charmed fellow students with his thoughtful speeches and outlined the ways he’d improve their lives. He had painstakingly drawn dozens of giant posters to hang around the halls, encourage everyone to make him their first choice.
As campaigning was winding down, Walker found himself wondering if he’d win. He knew he stood a good chance against his opponents but wanted to wow the students with something unexpected they wouldn’t forget. Cue his little sister Ashlin.
Hoping to support Walker in his campaign efforts, Ashlin recruited two friends for a unique dance performance.
The girls were determined to sway the crowd with their hilarious routine They practiced their choreography day and night, even making special costumes for the big event. Little did they know, however, that they were about to go viral.
In a video captured by a member of the assembly, Walker says a short speech, telling his fellow students that “actions speak louder than words”. With that, three figures take the floor for a performance not soon to be forgotten.
As the song “Elvira” plays over the loudspeakers, three cowgirls in giant hats make their way to the center of the floor.
“Elvira” was written by Dallas Frazier, being inspired by the name of a street in East Nashville, Tennessee. Later in 1981, the song was released by The Oak Ridge Boys, becoming their signature hit.
Interestingly, the year before the song was released, Lee Golden of The Oak Ridge Boys told PEOPLE magazine: “Inevitable our music will cross all borders and labels. Someday we’re going to run across something that everybody will like at the same time. When that happens, we’ll have made it.” For the band’s members, Elvira ultimately became that song.
Although the girls’ giant hats are what immediately catches the eye, their fancy footwork quickly steals the show.
With their slick dance moves and speedy legs, the girls steal everyone’s attention, eliciting belly giggles with their synchronized kicks and spins. As you’ll quickly see, “Elvira” was the perfect song for their quirky performance.
The giant hats make the girls’ look especially miniature, adding hilarity to their synchronized steps. The song’s already fun to listen to but watching the girls’ added moves make it a total blast. They make little errors during the performance (which isn’t surprising considering the giant hats), but the mistakes just add to the hilarity, cracking everyone up.
Throughout the video, the students can’t help but giggle at the dancers— and when they pull out their show-stopping move, the crowd buckles over in laughter.
As they dance, their lettered hats spell the name “Walker”, reminding everyone of who’s responsible for this gut-busting performance. As mentioned, the video is a few years old, but it’s been making the rounds once again. It’s truly hard to have a bad day after watching something like this.
Since being uploaded a few years ago, the girls’ routine has been viewed millions of times.
It’s impossible to not crack a smile while watching their tiny legs kick and scramble to the routine. They had the entire auditorium busting out in laughter— and Walker couldn’t have been more grateful.
With the girls’ hard work, giant hats, and wicked dance moves, Walker’s campaign was a success.
A later comment posted by the uploader confirms: “He ended up winning!! YEAH!” — but after seeing this hilarious video, was there really any doubt?
