There are some couples out there who are just obviously really close.
You can see it in the way that they interact with each other. Sometimes, you can’t even put your finger on it, but you know that they have the kind of relationship that is long and enduring. You can’t help but find a bit of joy in a sight like that.
Fran and Marlo Cowan are that kind of couple.
The two got married in 1946, which means they have had a lot of time to get very close to one another. Could you imagine how well you would know somebody if you were married to them for that long?
When couples are really close, they share not only love but common activities and interests as well. Fran and Marlo shared the gift and the love of playing piano together, and they sure are good at playing duets with one another.
In 2008, the two decided to play a duet at a piano in the atrium of the Mayo Clinic.
A video of the performance was recorded and put on YouTube, where it has now gone viral. And it’s hard to believe how charming and lovely their performance was.
The song they chose to play is called “Old Grey Bonnet.” It’s a beautiful little tune that sounds cheerful and upbeat. Therefore, the couple thought that it would be the perfect tune to play in the lobby of this building.
As they began to play, they amassed a large crowd of onlookers.
Everyone wanted to see Fran and Marlo play the piano, and they were obviously excited to show everyone what they could do on the keys. They both look extremely happy as they start playing the song together – Fran on one side of the piano and Marlo on the other.
Then, as they’re playing, the performance gets even better. They take small pauses in the middle of the song to quickly change positions, making the crowd around them go wild.
This clever little move really takes the song to the next level.
The onlookers around them love it, which is obvious as they laugh and cheer for the talented couple. After the first time that they switch positions, they do it several more times to the pleasure of the audience. You can tell that they had it all planned out because the timing came together perfectly. They did a great job choreographing the moves that they wanted to do while giving their performance.
One time, when they switch places, Fran gives Marlo a playful little slap on his side. This swift action just proves the affection these two have for each other. Even after their many years of marriage, they are still playing around with each other like they just got married yesterday. It’s a cute gesture that shows just how much they love each other.
They continue playing until the end of the song. When they are finished, they look up to see their audience cheering them on. They were a huge success, and it’s clear that everybody loved the performance. Not only did they do a great job playing the piano, but their love for each other is just so real and obvious that you can’t help but to smile.
Then, they share a look with each other – probably a look that they have shared many times in their lives.
It’s the look of love, of understanding, of the recognition that you’re a part of a partnership that continues to get stronger each and every day.
