Sometimes life throws you unexpected curveballs that derail everything you thought your life was going to be.
Nikki Leonti grew up in the church, and she always loved to sing. When she was 13, she won a local singing contest and soon enough she had landed her very own record deal.
She sang to hundreds of thousands of people in stadiums while she was on tour, and everything seemed to be aligning for her – it seemed as if her whole life was already very nicely laid out in front of her.
Then, when a relationship escalated quickly and she became pregnant, everything changed in the blink of an eye.
The industry immediately kicked her out because of her pregnancy. She was no longer considered as a good example or face for the Christian music industry. And just like that, everything was ripped out from underneath her.
When her daughter Jaslyn was born, though, it all made sense. She was like a light in the darkness.
In a sense, Mom and daughter grew up together, and are incredibly close. It’s not a surprise that Jaslyn is also a gifted and passionate vocalist like her mom.
When Nikki met her now husband, Ryan Edgar, even more of the puzzle started falling into place. They melded together as a true family, with Ryan adopting Jaslyn as her own.
That’s when they all started the Edgar family band.
As the three of them step onto the stage together, it’s hard to believe that Nikki is Jaslyn’s mother. They look like they could be sisters!
After Nikki tells her story, the stakes for impressing the judges are extremely high. There’s no way that someone who had made it so the in the music industry could mess this up, right?
When they start to sing, all the tension leaves the room and is replaced with awe.
Ryan is the first to sing with his powerful but soothing voice. Then, Jaslyn takes a couple lines on her own and wows the crowd with her impressive pipes. Nikki takes over with an incredibly soulful and passionate tone that completely fills up the whole space.
But when all three of them sing together in three-part harmony, that’s when the magic really happens. It’s almost chilling how good they sound together!
What do you think of this performance? Would you listen to the Edgar Family Band on your drive to work, or on a long road trip?
The judges absolutely love all three of them, but Simon makes a point to single out Jaslyn’s lovely tone. Do you have a favorite voice out of the three of them, or is it too hard to choose?
This is one of those acts that just hits you where it hurts but in a really wonderful way. They deserve to go very far.
Since this audition, Nikki has had an extremely successful career in music, and their family is still incredibly full of love and support for one another.
Isn’t that all you could really ask for?
