When you were a teenager, did you have anybody who you idolized?
Although we can all still be fans of our favorite artists into adulthood, there’s something particularly intense about the enthusiasm that some teenagers have for their favorite singers and actors. For the most part, these fandoms (or even crushes, in some cases) are entirely one-sided because we don’t get to meet or interact with the people that we’re fans of. On those rare occasions where we get to actually meet the people that we idolize, we make memories that are sure to last a lifetime.
And that’s exactly what this video is all about.
When it comes to pop superstars, they don’t get much bigger or world famous than Ed Sheeran.
For anyone who doesn’t know, Sheeran is an English singer and songwriter who has been releasing music and performing since 2004. His songs and albums have been immensely popular and to date, he has sold more than 150 million records.
His songs have inspired all kinds of people around the world to find their own voices and to perform as well. For example, the girl in this video was onstage at the mall singing a cover of Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.”
But what she didn’t know was that Sheeran was actually in the mall that day listening!
As the clip begins, Sheeran is looking directly at the camera with a sly grin on his face.
It’s clear that he has something special planned from the very beginning. As the video continues, Sheeran and the cameraman speed walk through the mall as the music playing gets louder and louder. Before long, they’re at the stage where a girl is performing one of Sheeran’s songs for a small crowd. At first, nobody notices anything and Sheeran walks right up to the stage.
A moment later, Sheeran walks right up onto the stage and the crowd goes wild!
As soon as the girl realizes who is onstage with her, she covers her mouth in shock!
After she regains her composure, Sheeran takes the microphone and starts singing right along with her. Although the girl in the video has a great voice, it’s a little bit shaky as Sheeran sings with her—but who can blame her, she’s so excited!
By this point in the performance, the entire crowd is cheering and filming what’s happening on stage. As the crowd’s enthusiasm grows, so does the girl’s confidence.
By the end of the performance, the two even start harmonizing together!
When the song is over, the crowd goes wild and Sheeran and the girl share a hug.
So far, the video has more than 12 millions views on YouTube—and it’s not hard to see why! In a world where we so often see negative stories and controversy on social media, moments like this one warm our hearts. No matter how big any star gets, they’re still normal people who want to have a connection with their fans. Needless to say, that’s a concert that nobody in the mall that day will ever forget!
