The song “Thinking Out Loud” had Ed Sheeran winning the 2016 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
It was such a huge hit that you’d hear the song everywhere, from malls, to karaoke bars, to office cubicles, and even taxis.
This song was arguably what rocketed Sheeran to superstardom, leading to him winning many fans and selling out stadiums.
And that was in 2014.
He went on to release more albums and even more sensational hits but “Thinking Out Loud” remained a staple for many since it had a slower tempo most folks could sing along to.
Ed also has a habit of surprising random people in random places when he hears them singing his songs.
Like this young girl at a mall.
He was at the West Edmonton Mall in Canada when he heard someone singing his hit song.
And she was on a microphone singing in front of a crowd.
So Ed started walking towards the music and is even asked by the person filming him what he’s doing.
He then tells the cameraman, “I”m just gonna go sing with someone” and proceeds to jump on stage with her.
Just look at her face when she realizes who just ran up to her!
The girl, Sydney Bourbeau, later commented on her own YouTube video of the moment saying, “This was the best moment of my life. Thanks to Ed for making this happen!”
Ed is a very sweet man, smiling and singing along with Sydney without taking the spotlight for himself.
He allows her to sing in her range.
This viewer observed the same.
“Can I just say, as a musician, it was very sweet when he started harmonizing with her? It made sure that he stayed in her range, and it highlighted her voice over his. And he left as she was finishing, so it was more about how she inspired him, and less about his fans swarming the stage. That whole performance was very classy.”
Apparently, she was singing as part of her music school’s fundraiser at West Edmonton Mall.
While many others would have freaked out and stopped, Bourbeau kept singing along with Ed who let her lead like a real gentleman.
See, Ed has incredible range, able to hit really high notes with ease.
But Sydney isn’t really a singer, though she did have the guts to get up there.
That’s why Ed dropped to her range and sang along with her really nicely.
What an experience though!
Sheeran’s manager later coordinated two tickets for Bourbeau and her mom to go Sheeran’s local show at Rexall Place.
“We found love right where we are.”
An embrace and a round of applause later, Ed soon leaves the stage with people smiling and thanking him.
What a class act!
To think Sydney first thought Ed was some guy who came on to fix something on stage.
