Music has the unique ability to make us feel the entire range of human emotions.
By strumming a single chord, you can lift someone’s mood.
But let’s not forget about vocals.
Alternatively, you can make someone relive some of the saddest moments of their life with just one song.
With that kind of power, it’s no wonder why talented musicians rise to extreme heights of stardom.
As fans, we trust our favorite artists to take us on emotional journeys that will fill us to the brim.
Some artists are so good at doing this that they seem to transcend time and popular culture. It’s as if their music will be relatable to every generation until the end of time.
Sir Elton John is one such musician.
His songs are so well known and beloved that even now, over 50 years since the debut of his first album in 1969, they are still being played.
You’d be hard-pressed to sit through an entire night of karaoke at your local bar without hearing someone sing one of Elton’s famous songs like “Rocket Man” or “Tiny Dancer.”
In 1989, Sir Elton John put out a song that would tug on the hearts strings of fans all over the world.
It was called “Sacrifice” and it is still just as relevant today as it was back then.
It’s so relevant, in fact, that two of our modern culture’s most famous musicians decided to sing it as a duet on a French TV show called Taratata.
The two artists are Ed Sheeran and James Blunt.
I know you’ve heard of them.
When the two artists get introduced, the crowd goes wild, standing on their feet and cheering as loud as they can.
However, “Sacrifice” is a slow, emotional song, so once the lights dim and the piano starts to play, everyone quickly quiets down, excited to be taken on an emotional journey.
James Blunt is playing the piano and he doesn’t miss a note.
It sounds crisp and clean.
He plays through the intro.
Then he starts to sing in his famous soothing voice.
Ed Sheeran plays along on his guitar, picking notes here and there that add perfect highlights to the song.
James gets through his verse and the first chorus of the song.
The crowd is stunned.
Then it’s Ed’s turn to sing a verse and when he does, your ears immediately love what they hear.
It’s so smooth and right on key.
He gets through his verse and when the chorus comes along, James joins him in their first duet.
Their two voices sound amazing when separate, but heard together, they take the song to the next level.
They two sing the rest of the song together and it sounds perfect. They hit every note on their respective instruments and with their satisfying voices.
When they finish, the crowd erupts.
Elton John himself, if he’s heard this edition of his amazing song, would be proud.
