It’s funny how reality TV talent competitions kind of look the same no matter what version of the show or country the show takes place in.
The talent is placed on a beautifully lit stage with an elaborate background.
As they perform the camera pans back and forth to the judges who are trying hard to look emotional and human. This viral episode of K-Pop Star, a South Korean reality talent show, is no exception.
The episode of K-Pop Star featuring Shin Ji Hoon and Baek A Yeon’s performance of Les Miserables classic “I Dreamed a Dream” has gotten more than 2 million views on YouTube.
If you’ve ever listened to that song, it’s kind of morbidly depressing about being dreams being crushed but the play is called “Miserables” so…
Shin and Baek’s performance manages to bring the crippling sadness of the song to real life.
Shin, the one on the left who sounds like a baby, is a singer, actress, and figure skater that made it all the way to the Top 6 in K-Pop Star Season 2.
Baek, the one on the right who sounds like her voice is actually her own, is a cancer survivor, singer, and songwriter that was one of the final three contestants on the first season of K-Pop Star, according to Wikipedia.
Even though Shin didn’t win K-Pop stars her solo singing career soared after the show because of her range and unique singing style.
Baek returned to the show to sing the duet with Shin. These two basically sound like Disney princesses, as one YouTuber commented. Their voices are simply astounding together.
One of my favorite parts of the video is the around 3:07 when you see this girl with her mouth open and a completely blank look on her face.
The camera then switches to a guy who looks like he’s wearing a blond wig who is biting his lower lip, which seems like he’s pretending to look hold back tears. It’s hilarious.
Still, Baek and Shin’s performance sounds absolutely beautiful and they played the part of the song perfectly because they looked really sad while singing it.
People on YouTube were just overwhelmed by the beauty of their voices.
“I love their performance,” said one YouTuber. “The melody and harmony have mixed well. Jihoon sounds like a little child while Ah Yeon is like the sister. That feeling… sisterly concept? Dunno. It’s just that I really love it!!!”
